Bokanté Malika Tirolien, voice Michael League, guitar & voice Chris McQueen, guitar & voice Bob Lanzetti, guitar Roosevelt Collier, steel guitar Jamey Haddad, percussion Keita Ogawa, percussion André Ferrari, percussion An experiment conceived by Snarky Puppy founder and GroundUP Music creator Michael League (who has traded his bass in for a baritone guitar in this group), the process of formation was all but conventional. The music and some of the melodies were written by League, demoed while on tour with other bands, and then sent to Tirolien with lyrical concepts attached. Tirolien then wrote lyrics and melodies, demoing and ping-ponging the new content back to Michael. Many of the musicians had never even met until the first day of recording. By the end of the week-long session in upstate New York's legendary Dreamland Studios, the band felt abnormally cohesive. 'Unity was paramount in the formation of this group,' observed League. 'Though the ensemble is multi-lingual, multi-cultural, and multi-generational, we all feel connected as musicians and people. And in combining our different accents I feel that there is a strangely common and poignant sound, one that can reach and relate to listeners around the world.' Christian McBride's New Jawn Christian McBride,leader/bass Nasheet Waits, drums Marcus Strickland, sax tenor Josh Evans, trumpet Powered by a relentless energy and a boundless love of swing, Christian McBride's path has described a continuous positive arc since his arrival on the scene. With a career now blazing into its third decade, the Philadelphia native has become one of the most requested, most recorded, and most respected figures in the music world today. His latest grouping, Christian McBride's New Jawn, is a killer unit, tight, soulful, in the pocket and in the groove. By the way, Jawn is Philly slang to describe just about everything and anything, but most importantly to understand why McBride named his new band so, it is probably this: 'Jawn' is one Philly thing New York can't lay claim to'. Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Carlos Kleiber (direction) Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 4 in B flat major, op.60 Directed by Humphrey Burton Recorded at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, in 1983 Carlos Kleiber's all too rare concert appearances are always musical occasions to cherish and remember. The vitality and precision of his authoritative gestures never fail to generate excitement and inspire playing of great élan from orchestras throughout the world. When Carlos Kleiber conducts the Concertgebouworkest of Amsterdam in Beethoven, one can expect a performance of intense musical concentration and exceptional expressive power. Carlos Kleiber made this recording with the Dutch orchestra in 1983, conducting Beethoven's Fourth and Seventh Symphonies. The mesmeric command of this elusive conductor over his musicians is fascinating. With none of the excessive glamor of the star performer, Carlos Kleiber, with meticulous care for detail, creates clear instrumental textures, compelling rhythmic designs and magical moments of fine repose. This is spell-binding music-making. This is vintage Carlos Kleiber.
