Mzwandile (Shabaka Hutchings, Siyabonga Mthembu) . Chik CHIkka (Lykaty Astatke) Refocusing jazz could be Shabaka Hutchings' mantra. The tenor saxophonist recently went to Johannesburg to soak up South African heritage and to surround himself with the country's best musicians. It led to a celebratory, spiritual sound on the vibrant Wisdom of Elders, recorded in just one day in Johannesburg. The music composed by the saxophonist is primitive, spontaneous, and unpredictable. It's infused with drummer Tumi Mogoros's polyrhythmic beats and the hypnotic sounds of singer Siyabonga Mthembu. British Shabaka Hutchings has Barbadian roots. He's been recognized as a key player on the London jazz scene for a few years now. He got noticed when he brought African and Caribbean sounds to Sons Of Kemet and by playing with the electro-cosmic sounds of The Comet Is Coming. Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Carlos Kleiber (direction) Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No.7 in A major, op.92 Directed by Humphrey Burton Recorded at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, in 1983 Carlos Kleiber's all too rare concert appearances are always musical occasions to cherish and remember. The vitality and precision of his authoritative gestures never fail to generate excitement and inspire playing of great élan from orchestras throughout the world. When Carlos Kleiber conducts the Concertgebouworkest of Amsterdam in Beethoven, one can expect a performance of intense musical concentration and exceptional expressive power. Carlos Kleiber made this recording with the Dutch orchestra in 1983, conducting Beethoven's Fourth and Seventh Symphonies. The mesmeric command of this elusive conductor over his musicians is fascinating. With none of the excessive glamor of the star performer, Carlos Kleiber, with meticulous care for detail, creates clear instrumental textures, compelling rhythmic designs and magical moments of fine repose. This is spell-binding music-making. This is vintage Carlos Kleiber.

QVENILD PERSONAL PIANO @ Oslo Jazz Festival 2016 Morten Qvenild, a member of In The Country, who also accompanies Susanna Wallumrød in Susanna & The Magical Orchestra, presents a very personal kind of music. Qvenild drifts away from jazz standards, presenting works performed on his 'HyPer(sonal) Piano', a keyboard augmented with electronics. The Norwegian musician's compositions are varied, and may include his own vocals. He sometimes reduces the accompaniment to a bare minimum, a few melodic touches to support the melancholy of his timbre (Wild Horses). He feels at liberty, for example, to break the continuity of a piece like Kick And Glide, speeding up the tempo and calling on programs to give his piano a psychedelic and futuristic touch - in the company of a distorted guitar - taking us far away from traditional jazz. Record on August 17th 2016 at the Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria, Oslo (Oslo Jazz Festival) TV director, Jean-François Hugel

Esperanza Spalding : Emily's D + Evolution at the Melbourne Jazz Festival 2016 Esperanza Spalding, bass / vocals Matt Steven, guitar Justin Tyson, drums Emily Elbert, vocals Originally conceived the day before her birthday -during a 'sleepless night of full moon inspiration'- Emily's D+Evolution will perform all-new material that Spalding says 'unfolds as live musical vignettes.' 'Emily is my middle name and I'm using this fresh persona as my inner navigator. This project is about going back and reclaiming un-cultivated curiosity, and using it as a compass to move forward and expand' says Spalding. 'My hope for this group is to create a world around each song... We will be staging the songs as much as we play them, using characters, video and the movement of our bodies.' Emily's D+Evolution is opening Melbourne Jazz Festival 2016 in the Forum. Recorded on June 3rd 2016 at the Forum Melbourne TV direction by Mathieu Mastin
