QVENILD PERSONAL PIANO @ Oslo Jazz Festival 2016 Morten Qvenild, a member of In The Country, who also accompanies Susanna Wallumrød in Susanna & The Magical Orchestra, presents a very personal kind of music. Qvenild drifts away from jazz standards, presenting works performed on his 'HyPer(sonal) Piano', a keyboard augmented with electronics. The Norwegian musician's compositions are varied, and may include his own vocals. He sometimes reduces the accompaniment to a bare minimum, a few melodic touches to support the melancholy of his timbre (Wild Horses). He feels at liberty, for example, to break the continuity of a piece like Kick And Glide, speeding up the tempo and calling on programs to give his piano a psychedelic and futuristic touch - in the company of a distorted guitar - taking us far away from traditional jazz. Record on August 17th 2016 at the Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria, Oslo (Oslo Jazz Festival) TV director, Jean-François Hugel

Sylvain Luc 5tet Sylvain Luc, guitar Keyvan Chemirani, percussion Bijan Chemirani, percussion Stéphane Belmondo, trumpet Lionel Suarez, accordion Sylvain Luc is without a doubt one of the most brilliant guitarists of the current generation. His insatiable curiosity for the most diverse musical worlds makes his encounter with the Chemirani brothers two astonishing Franco-Iranian percussionists a rare and powerful moment. When he adds Stéphane Belmondo and Lionel Suárez to the trio both of whom are on the look out for dreams and encounters, this atypical grouping of variable geometry becomes a real invitation to travel! Shabaka and the Ancestors Shabaka Akua Lumumba Kamau Hutchings (saxophone ténor) Mthunzi Mvubu (saxophone alto) Siyabonga Mthembu (voix) Ariel Zomonsky (Basse) Tumi Mogorosi (batterie) Gontse Makhene (Percussions) Playlist . Nguni (Shabaka Hutchings, Siyabonga Mthembu) . The Sea (Shabaka Hutchings) . The Observer (Shabaka Hutchings, Siyabonga Mthembu) . Joyous ((Shabaka Hutchings) . Natty (Shabaka Hutchings) . Mzwandile (Shabaka Hutchings, Siyabonga Mthembu) . Chik CHIkka (Lykaty Astatke) Refocusing jazz could be Shabaka Hutchings' mantra. The tenor saxophonist recently went to Johannesburg to soak up South African heritage and to surround himself with the country's best musicians. It led to a celebratory, spiritual sound on the vibrant Wisdom of Elders, recorded in just one day in Johannesburg. The music composed by the saxophonist is primitive, spontaneous, and unpredictable. It's infused with drummer Tumi Mogoros's polyrhythmic beats and the hypnotic sounds of singer Siyabonga Mthembu. British Shabaka Hutchings has Barbadian roots. He's been recognized as a key player on the London jazz scene for a few years now. He got noticed when he brought African and Caribbean sounds to Sons Of Kemet and by playing with the electro-cosmic sounds of The Comet Is Coming.
