The unexpected on all fronts, Hervé Koubi A film by Sonia Paramo Co-authored by Bérengère Alfort and Sonia Paramo. Trained at the Rosella Hightower International Dance Centre in Cannes and then at the Marseilles Opera, he became one of Claude Brumachon's artists at the Centre Chorégraphique national in Nantes, Karine Saporta at the Centre Chorégraphique national in Caen and Thierry Smits for the Compagnie Thor in Brussels. In 2000 he produced his first project'Le Golem', in 2008 he undertook three choreographic trials based on three works: Coppélia, une fiancée aux yeux d'émail...', 'Les Suprêmes' and 'Bref séjour chez les vivants'.In 2010, he started a Mediterranean project interspersed with a number of first performances El Din' (2010-2011), 'Ce que le jour doit à la nuit' (2013), 'Des hommes qui dansent' (2014), 'Les nuits barbares' (2015), 'Les premiers matins du monde' (2016). Hervé Koubi's dance is made up of poetry, nourished with calligraphy, with sculpture, influenced by street dancing such as hip-hop but also the contribution of artists coming from very different horizons. The choreographer's company is a reflection of this cultural blending. We are going to set off on a voyage with Hervé Koubi and his company, who in January 2018 will begin a tour of the United States (including amongst other venues the prestigious Joyce Theater in New York) the French West Indies, and concluding at the Bolchoï Theatre in Moscow. What is this thing called love ( 5 saxo) 'Bird with Strings' (1949) by Charlie Parker is a unique encounter between the world of jazz and classical music. Some of today's best saxophonists return to this repertoire, with new arrangements by Christophe Del Sasso. For the young producer Norman Granz, the signing of Charlie Parker on the Mercury label was a real success story. For several years the saxophonist had been toying with the idea of seizing the opportunity to record music outside his usual quintet. The project 'Charlie Parker with strings' was therefore for him an old dream that he was to bring to reality in 1949. With an oboe, a few violins, a viola, a cello, a harp, a piano, a double bass and drums, he was to give a new sound to the 1930's classics such as 'Just Friends' or 'April in Paris'. Eric Legnini's recording tryptich, begun in 2006 with Miss Soul (then Big Boogaloo and Trippin'), marking the magnificent first steps of a leader for a pianist with a hyper-sophisticated bop language as early as the middle of the 1990's alongside the saxophonist Stefano Di Battista. Since then, the Belgian musician, settled in Paris has led an eclectic career, multiplied collaborations with vocalists (his friend Huge Coltman amngst others) and regularly puts on his producer's hat. In this 2019 season, Eric Legnini is coming back to the trio, but this time without drums : he will be accompanied by the guitarist Rocky Gresset (a reference on the Gypsy jazz scene) and by Thomas Bramerie (long-time touring partner and very probably the most sought after Parisian bass player) with whom he will present a completely new repertoire. Respectful to his elders (Dolphy, Coleman, Mingus...) but free of musical clans, the powerful Californian saxophonist, a real phenomenon, assures his singularity on stage. Mixing audiences and generations around a music with an electrifying groove, he takes in all of the heritage of the Great Black Music. My father brought me up on blues before I could even walk, and I played the organ before having learnt to speak.'Lucky Peterson, The precocious, classy little baby's bottle was thrown into music as soon as he was born.To this die-hard blues man, who is the guardian of the flame, he was able to add a well-chosen dose of groove. There is no doubt that it was a suitable way to honour Jimmy Smith, who was a reference in the realm of jazz soul and with whom he had exchanged in his youth. Finally this dive into history reminds us how much the hymns of the 1950's and 1960's remain incredibly sensual, enough to encourage the choir of a church to dance... Self-taught, it was by listening to the recordings of Art Blakey or Max Roach that he perfected his technique of drum playing, even though he was working as a technician at the National Radio of Nigeria. His destiny took a new turn when in 1964 he made the acquaintance of Fela Kuti, firstly as part of the Koola Lobitos, then as conductor of Africa 70 where he developed a new language known as the Afrobeat, a mixture of Yoruba rhythms, of funk and of revolutionary themes. With Fela Kuti, Tony would append his rhythmic signature to around twenty albums, a unique manner of drawing out the rhythms with caressing energy, but which is fantastically efficient. For the rest of his career, Tony would spend it remaining faithful to the original Afrobeat and a multidirectional emancipation leading him through jazz, Dub music and international Pop.
