A fiasco! No danger of this with the Magnetic Ensemble. They turned the Maison de la Culture into a proper dance floor. No beatbox for Antonin Leymarie's quintet. Why use one when you can do so much better yourself? Techno has not been very popular with jazzmen, largely for its lack of flexibility (a rigid tempo, a uniformity of sound). The Magnetic Ensemble picks up the challenge and demonstrates brilliantly that techno can be human, very human. Prepare yourself for a technoid trance, slow, progressive, polyrhythmic, irresistible, wild, frenzied. This music is made for movement! Recorded on November 12th at the festival D'Jazz Nevers (Nevers, France) - (Maison de la Culture, hall) TV Director, Samuel Thiebaut

Made famous by his participation in the 1960's, in the Tropicalist Movement, he was imprisoned, and forced into exile by the military regime established in 1964. Once back in Brazil, he went into politics whilst continuing his artistic career. Municipal Councilor in Salvador de Bahia he then became Minister of culture for the government of Lula da Silva. His return to Marciac where he presented his latest album marked the apotheosis of an evening entirely devoted to popular Brazilian music. From muted sambas to classy bossas, they are part of popular Brazilian music that the musician in his seventies has always stood up for. An accessible, captivating, natural music which from the first notes already appears to be familiar to us. Recorded on August 05, 2019 at Jazz in Marciac TV Director,

Considered as being part of the most brilliant and renowned Cuban musicians of their generation, this band of 7 had the excellent idea of composing an album entitled ' Y que !? (So What) ', nine pieces which reflect the diversity of influences and rhythms of El Comité. Afrobeat, funk, Latin jazz, ballades a ' Cuban groove Siglo 21 ' to put between all ears, impressive compositions, revivals marked El Comité, always stamped with the fluidity and energy which characterises this group. Despite their youth, their 15 or 20 years on the international stage for most of them, gives a veritable maturity to this album. The harmonies and thematic structures are an ample illustration. Archie Shepp, musical direction, saxophones Ambrose Akinmusire, trumpet Jason Moran, piano Richard Davis, double bass Billy Hart, drums With guests: Marion Rampal, voice Izidor Leitinger, trumpet Sébastien Llado, trombone Jean-Philippe Scali, baritone saxophone Playlist Naima - John Coltrane - Arranged by Izidor Leitinger Cousin Mary - John Coltrane - Arranged by Izidor Leitinger Blasé - Archie Shepp Prelude to a Kiss - Duke Ellington Los Olvidados - Archie Shepp In 1960, Archie Shepp attended a concert by John Coltrane at the Five Spot, the mythical club on the Lower East Side. Totally fascinated, he decided to pick up the tenor saxophone. Five years later, Shepp - already a reference in the world of free jazz - recorded alongside his hero. The resulting album, 'Ascension', was released in 1966, and remains today one of the great monuments of free improvisation. To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Coltrane's death - at the age of forty - the most Parisian representative of the New York avant-garde pays tribute to the brilliant composer of 'A Love Supreme', with a Franco-American all-star band not unlike that which recorded the revolutionary 'Ascension'. A giant of jazz pays tribute to one of his gods... Recorded on September 3rd 2016 at the Grande Halle of la Villette TV Director, Frank Cassenti

Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah Christian Scott, trumpet, Reverse Flugel, Sirenette Lawrence Fields, piano and keyboard Max Moran (b) Mike Mitchell, percussion Elena Pinderhughes, flute Weedie Braimah, drums 27 year old Christian Scott embodies the new generation of New Orleans trumpeters, a seminal dynasty that started with the legendary King Oliver and Louis Armstrong and continued with Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard and Nicholas Payton. The trumpeter trained at Berklee College of Music in Boston and his warm tone and unusual round notes are instantly recognisable. After working with McCoy Tyner, Prince, Marcus Miller, Eddie Palmieri, Mos Def, Thom Yorke and Solange Knowles, the musician from Crescent City is now the pin-up boy for jazz fusion. His grandfather is the iconic Big Chief Donald Harrison Sr. who managed four tribes of Black Indians (Christian actually started out in one in 1989). The Louisiana trumpeter's sound straddles hip hop, soul and jazz and he appeared a decade ago with the album Rewind That (2006). He was hit by the full force of Hurricane Katrina and devoted his next record (Anthem, 2007) to portraying the human and cultural disaster. After Live at Newport, he recorded Yesterday You Said Tomorrow in 2010 inspired by the 60s groovy jazz played by artists on the Blue Note record label. Christian Scott is one of a long line of Louisiana artists who have been reinventing jazz music for over a century. Recorded on 2017, June 30th at the Vienne Jazz Festival TV Director, Fabien Raymond
