What is this thing called love ( 5 saxo) 'Bird with Strings' (1949) by Charlie Parker is a unique encounter between the world of jazz and classical music. Some of today's best saxophonists return to this repertoire, with new arrangements by Christophe Del Sasso. For the young producer Norman Granz, the signing of Charlie Parker on the Mercury label was a real success story. For several years the saxophonist had been toying with the idea of seizing the opportunity to record music outside his usual quintet. The project 'Charlie Parker with strings' was therefore for him an old dream that he was to bring to reality in 1949. With an oboe, a few violins, a viola, a cello, a harp, a piano, a double bass and drums, he was to give a new sound to the 1930's classics such as 'Just Friends' or 'April in Paris'. Jazz at the Philharmonie celebrates this superb encounter by bringing together Géraldine Laurent (Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros 2015), Pierrick Pédron (Prix du disque français awarded by the Académie du jazz 2013) and Thomas de Pourquery (Artist of the Year at the Victoires du jazz 2017) on new arrangements by Christophe Dal Sasso. Recorded on January 27, 2019 at Pierre Boulez Hall, Philharmonie de Paris TV Director, Guiseppe De Vecchi

The William Parker Organ Quartet William Parker, doublebass Cooper-Moore, keyboard James Brandon Lewis, tenor saxophone Hamid Drake, drums The New York-based bass player is back with a groundbreaking organ quartet, and his music is more soul-based than ever - thrills are guaranteed! A former member of David S. Ware's and Cecil Taylor's bands, William Parker is, more than a sought-after sideman, a major jazz composer in his own right, constantly reinventing musical codes. The double bass player has made his mark as a leader capable of bringing together a number of loose electrons. Such is the case with this brilliant quartet: amazing drummer Hamid Drake, esoteric keyboard player Cooper-Moore and eclectic saxophonist James Brandon Lewis. Three fantastic partners, exploring a form of spiritual jazz that should touch us deep in our souls. Recorded on Marche 28th 2017 at the Dynamo of Banlieues Bleues, Pantin, as part of the 'Banlieues Bleues' Festival TV Director, Guillaume Dero

Anne Paceo (Circles) Anne Paceo, batterie, voice Leila Martial, voice Tony Paeleman, keyboard Christophe Panzani, saxophone From New-Orleans blues, pop experiments, to groove and hip-hop, jazz drummer Anne Paceo (winner of a 'Victoire du Jazz' award in 2016) is up for all kinds of musical adventures. This concert illustrates her eclecticism, beginning with her album 'Circles', followed by 'Fables of Shwedagon', a new project involving a Burmese orchestra. The evening's opening act features Anne's quartet, with Christophe Panzani on saxophone, singer Leila Martial and Tony Paeleman on keyboards. Anne's compositions, full of emotion and energy, show she has now become a major figure on the French jazz scene. Recorded on May 27th 2017 at the Théâtre Municipal of Coutances, Jazz sous les Pommiers TV director, Thierry Villeneuve

Éric Legnini Trio Éric Legnini Trio Eric Legnini (piano) Rocky Gresset (guitar) Thomas Bramerie (double bass) A foot-stomping jazz, touched by soul and by funk. Eric Legnini's recording tryptich, begun in 2006 with Miss Soul (then Big Boogaloo and Trippin'), marking the magnificent first steps of a leader for a pianist with a hyper-sophisticated bop language as early as the middle of the 1990's alongside the saxophonist Stefano Di Battista. Since then, the Belgian musician, settled in Paris has led an eclectic career, multiplied collaborations with vocalists (his friend Huge Coltman amngst others) and regularly puts on his producer's hat. In this 2019 season, Eric Legnini is coming back to the trio, but this time without drums : he will be accompanied by the guitarist Rocky Gresset (a reference on the Gypsy jazz scene) and by Thomas Bramerie (long-time touring partner and very probably the most sought after Parisian bass player) with whom he will present a completely new repertoire. Recorded on September 7, 2019 at the Pierre Boulez Hall - Philharmonie, Jazz à la Villette TV Director, Samuel Thibaut

Kamasi Washington Kamasi Washington, saxophone tenor Rickey Washington, Flute / Saxophone soprano Ryan Porter, trombone Brandon Coleman, keyboard Robert Miller, drums Miles Mosley, double bass Tony Austin, drums Patrice Quinn, voice Kamasi Washigton's apprenticeship is incredible: Lauryn Hill, Raphael Saadiq, Snoop Dog, Kendrick Lamar. So it is not surprising to discover that his triple album 'The Epic' was released in 2015 on the electro and rap and instrumental label Brainfeeder. Respectful to his elders (Dolphy, Coleman, Mingus...) but free of musical clans, the powerful Californian saxophonist, a real phenomenon, assures his singularity on stage. Mixing audiences and generations around a music with an electrifying groove, he takes in all of the heritage of the Great Black Music. Recorded on May 11, 2018 at Jazz sous les Pommiers Festival Réalisation, Laurent Hasse et Thierry Villeneuve
