Chucho Valdés Quartet Chucho Valdés, piano Yelsy Heredia, bass Georvis Pico Milian, drums Pedro Pablo Rodríguez, percussion Chucho Valdés is a Cuban pianist, composer and arranger, a six-time Grammy Award winner and a three-time Latin Grammy Award winner, and one of the most influential Afro-Cuban musicians in history. His father, the famous Cuban pianist and bandleader Ramon 'Bebo' Valdés, was his first teacher. At the age of 3, little Chucho was already playing melodies he heard on the radio by ear with both hands in all kinds of tones. Chucho played in the famous Cuban band Irakere (1973-2005). He was also the band's founder, composer and arranger. Irakere combined traditional Afro-Cuban music, jazz, rock and classical music. Tribute to Irakere: Live at Marciac, dedicated to Irakere's 40th anniversary, won a Grammy Award as the best Latin jazz album of 2016. Chucho plays on tour and also gives music lessons. He recorded a duet with his father, Bebo, 'Juntos Para Siempre' (Grammy Award winner), and an album called Chucho's Steps, where he presented his new band, Afro-Cuban Messengers. Herbie Hancock believes Chucho is one of the most important figures in the world of Latin and piano jazz. Recorded on 2017, June 25th at the Alfa Jazz Fest, Ukraine TV Director, Amos Rozenberg

Jazz trumpeter, composer, arranger, conductor and Stanford University graduate Tom Harrell is often described as a 'pure melodic genius'. Apart from his 27 albums and hundreds of concerts as a frontman, the Illinois-born trumpeter has worked with the greatest names in jazz. He is on tour this year with an innovative sextet, 'Colors of a Dream', refining even further the 'piano-less' concept: a trumpet, two saxophones, two basses (one of them also a singer) and drums. We have Wayne Escoffery, Ugonna Okegwo and Jonathan Blake, three regular members of his quintet, and two newcomers: alto saxophonist Jaleel Shaw and the mesmerizing Esperanza Spalding playing bass and singing.

There are rare types of music which, like perfume or spice, can make your head spin and sweep you off your feet at first listen. Toumani Diabaté's music is of this breed. The notes from his kora literally pierce you. In an instant, you are plunged straight into Africa - Mali to be precise - into the heart of a village where even the urban hubbub can't drown out the music ushering inhabitants into a long night of celebration. The Banlieues Bleues Festival offers us a chance to discover this major artist during a concert.

Amaury faye Trio Amaury Faye, piano Louis Navarro, double bass Théo Lanau, percussion In keeping with the big piano trios and Big Moe Trio (in 2010), perfected from his Toulouse kingdom, the new project from Amaury Faye tells his story. He takes inspiration from artists on the contemporary New York scene and the latest trends in European jazz. Amaury Faye went to study at Berklee College in Boston with pianist Joanne Brackeen (Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon) and Tia Fuller (Joe Lovano) in 2014. The pianist is a member of the Toulouse-based Initiative H alongside his trio. Their repertoire includes original tracks and cool covers. There's a blend of improvisation and writing, virtuosity and finesse, lyricism and undulating beats (e.g. on the Fender Rhodes). Faye is one to watch on the international piano scene and famous for his talents as both a soloist and composer. Amaury Faye, Louis Navarro and Théo Lanau put the heritage of the past into fuelling the future. Recorded on 2017, July 13th at the Jazz Festival in Vienne TV Director, Nicolas Micha

Con Brio Ziek McCarter, vocal Brendan Liu, trumpet Marcus Stephens, saxopone Benjamin Andrews, guitar Patrick Glynn, keyboard Jonathan Kirchner, bass Andrew Laubacher, percussion Seven musicians formed Con Brio in 2003 with the same passion for the Bay Area's signature funk and psychedelic soul. San Francisco is where Sly and The Family Stone, Tower Of Power, The Headhunters and Darondo flourished. Con Brio produced their first EP, Kiss The Sun, in 2015 and are already famous on the West Coast for their electric concerts and Ziek McCarter's velvety vocals. After touring the US and Europe alongside veterans Galactic and Fishbone, the Californians headed to the studio to put their buzzing live energy on record in 2016. The result is called Paradise, an album in which 'We tried to create a narrative arc in the same way as we link tracks when we play live,' says McCarter. Con Brio has set the stages at the top US festivals Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Summerfest on fire. A good omen. Recorded on 2017, July 13th at the Jazz Festival in Vienne TV Director, Nicolas Micha
