Donny McCaslin Donny McCaslin, saphoxone according to the album 'Beyond Now' Donny McCaslin is a tenor sax player. Influenced by his father, pianist and vibraphonist, he starts playing saxophone at the age of 12. After stopping by Berklee College of Music of Boston, he joins a quintet of a teacher from his school, Gary Burton, with whom he will tour for a few years. He moves to New York in 1991 and joins the band Steps Ahead. He will play with several more important music ensembles such as the Ken Schaphorst's big band or the Maria Schneider Ahead. In 2005, he joins trumpeter Dave Douglas'quintet. In 2010, he explores for the first time electric, funk, R&B and soul music. Moreover, David Bowie chose Mc Caslin's band to support his very last album Blackstar. In the past years, he was three times nominated for Grammys Awards. In 1991 he founded a quartet which today is composed of Benoît Corboz (keyboards), Marcello Giuliani (bass) and Marc Erbetta (drums and percussion),he explores electronic jazz-fusion much in the same way as Miles Davis and recorded several albums starting from 1994. After an incursion into into rock at the head of his Ladybird Quartet created in 2001, he returned to the formula which had made him successful. Zakir Hussain (tabla) Chris Potter (saxophone) Dave Holland (double bass) The Indian composer and percussionist Zakir Hussain is THE tabla player of his generation. The tabla is a percussion instrument from the north of India which does indeed give rhythm to the musician's compositions as much when he is performing solo as here when he is accompanied by the bass player Dave Holland or the tenor saxophonist Chris Potter. Considered as a national treasure in India, this artist accrues performances with no less than 150 concerts per year and a career which began at 12 years of age! Perhaps the most impressive virtuoso of the tenor saxophone according to Michel Contat of Télérama, Chris Potter comes from the generation of saxophonists who came to the fore during the course of the 1990's alongside Joshua Redman, James Carter, Chris Cheek and Seamus Blake. Very quickly, this native of Chicago attracted attention because of his succulent tenor sound and a very personal manner of constructing his solos, imposing himself as a reference amongst his peers. Dave Holland's class! This majestic double bass with a round sound. A self-taught double bass player whose atypical manner of playing and magnificent sound were quickly noticed by a certain Miles Davis. A great composer as well. A great leader too.Together with Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Stan Getz or heading up his own groups, the Brit could never be happy with the minimum. Zakir Hussain (tabla) Chris Potter (saxophone) Dave Holland (double bass) The Indian composer and percussionist Zakir Hussain is THE tabla player of his generation. The tabla is a percussion instrument from the north of India which does indeed give rhythm to the musician's compositions as much when he is performing solo as here when he is accompanied by the bass player Dave Holland or the tenor saxophonist Chris Potter. Considered as a national treasure in India, this artist accrues performances with no less than 150 concerts per year and a career which began at 12 years of age! Perhaps the most impressive virtuoso of the tenor saxophone according to Michel Contat of Télérama, Chris Potter comes from the generation of saxophonists who came to the fore during the course of the 1990's alongside Joshua Redman, James Carter, Chris Cheek and Seamus Blake. Very quickly, this native of Chicago attracted attention because of his succulent tenor sound and a very personal manner of constructing his solos, imposing himself as a reference amongst his peers. Dave Holland's class! This majestic double bass with a round sound. A self-taught double bass player whose atypical manner of playing and magnificent sound were quickly noticed by a certain Miles Davis. A great composer as well. A great leader too.Together with Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Stan Getz or heading up his own groups, the Brit could never be happy with the minimum. On a parlé de free jazz, mais ' ce n'est pas un autre jazz, c'est une musique autre, créative '. Depuis ses débuts (dans l'ONJ de Daniel Yvinec), Antonin Tri Hoang n'est pas sans évoquer Ornette : même lyrisme tarabiscoté, même goût du dérapage contrôlé. Au lieu d'une dissertation sur l'œuvre, il a proposé des rêves, des ponts évocateurs, ' pas un revival, mais un survival '. Avec, aux manettes, le quartette Novembre et des invités qui maîtrisent à la perfection l'art du zapping et du collage. For its first performance (1864) Rossini arranged the work with only two pianos and harmonium. Partly for fear that it would be done anyway after his death, Rossini discreetly orchestrated the Petite Messe Solennelle during 1866-67, without losing its candor and subtlety. In 1991 he founded a quartet which today is composed of Benoît Corboz (keyboards), Marcello Giuliani (bass) and Marc Erbetta (drums and percussion),he explores electronic jazz-fusion much in the same way as Miles Davis and recorded several albums starting from 1994. After an incursion into into rock at the head of his Ladybird Quartet created in 2001, he returned to the formula which had made him successful. In his world, always deeply influenced by Miles Davis, the stridencies of rock alternate with the poetic respites, the rousing grooves with more calm ballads. QVENILD PERSONAL PIANO @ Oslo Jazz Festival 2016 Morten Qvenild, a member of In The Country, who also accompanies Susanna Wallumrød in Susanna & The Magical Orchestra, presents a very personal kind of music. Qvenild drifts away from jazz standards, presenting works performed on his 'HyPer(sonal) Piano', a keyboard augmented with electronics. The Norwegian musician's compositions are varied, and may include his own vocals. He sometimes reduces the accompaniment to a bare minimum, a few melodic touches to support the melancholy of his timbre (Wild Horses). He feels at liberty, for example, to break the continuity of a piece like Kick And Glide, speeding up the tempo and calling on programs to give his piano a psychedelic and futuristic touch - in the company of a distorted guitar - taking us far away from traditional jazz. Tigran, Festival International de Jazz de Montreal Tigran, Hamasyan, piano With pianist/composer Tigran Hamasyan, potent jazz improvisation fuses with the rich folkloric music of his native Armenia. Turning 30 in 2017, he's one of the most remarkable and distinctive jazz-meets-rock pianists of his generation. A piano virtuoso with groove power, Tigran's latest adventurous project is 2017's An Ancient Observer, his second solo album, his eighth overall as a sole leader, and his sophomore recording for Nonesuch. (Overall, this is his eighth recording as a sole leader.) Conceptually, An Ancient Observer is a poignant album focusing on the art of observing. Tigran's career has included an impressive number of accolades, including top piano award at the 2013 Montreux Jazz Festival and the grand prize at the prestigious 2006 Thelonious Monk Jazz Piano Competition. Shabaka and the Ancestors Shabaka Hutchings, saxophone, tenor Hutchings was born in 1984 in London. He moved to Barbados at the age of six, began studying classical clarinet aged nine and remained until sixteen. Shabaka's primary project is the group Sons of Kemet, which won the 2013 MOBO Award for Jazz Act of the Year. In June 2014 Shabaka was invited to join the Sun Ra Arkestra, performing with them and recording a session for BBC Radio 3. He has performed and recorded with Courtney Pine's Jazz Warriors, Mulatu Astatke and the Heliocentrics, Polar Bear and Soweto Kinch. Some of the many notable musicians he has shared the stage with include Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden and the Liberation Music Orchestra, Louis Moholo, Evan Parker, King Sunny Ade and Orlando Julius to name a few.
