Stéphane Kerecki - French Touch Stéphane Kerecki, double bass Julien Lourau, saxophone Fabrice Moreau, drums Jozef Dumoulin, piano, Fender Rhodes Stéphane Kerecki made a name for himself by playing with Daniel Humair, Sheila Jordan, Michel Portal, Jacky Terrasson. He is leading his own trio, with saxophonist Matthieu Donarier and drummer Thomas Grimmonprez. His recordings received many awards, including the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros, Disque d'Emoi de l'année 2007 (Jazz Magazine), Choc du Monde de la Musique a.o. Kerecki's most ambitious project to date, ' Nouvelle Vague ', an homage to the movies of Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Louis Malle, Jacques Demy, and the music it generated, features re-adapted works by Miles Davis, Martial Solal, Georges Delerue, Antoine Duhamel and Michel Legrand. His new project 'French Touch' explores the influence of contemporary French popular music, made by groups like Air, Daft Punk, Motorbass, Kavinsky and Phoenix, on today's music scene worldwide. Alonzo King is a great admirer of classical ballet, in which he sees a wonderful science of movement. To this virtuoso technique, he brings a physical, muscular sensuality, an almost feline fluidity refined to the point of pure esthetic pleasure. Meyer, his last creation, was premiered on the 30th anniversary of the company. Written in collaboration with American composer and bass player Edgar Meyer, the music brings purpose and rhythm to bodies and movement. Writing Ground draws its inspiration from the words of writer Colum McCann. In this piece, Alonzo King explores the wealth of traditional music from the Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Tibetan traditions. His choreography becomes a language, at once poetic and electrifying. Bokanté Malika Tirolien, voice Michael League, guitar & voice Chris McQueen, guitar & voice Bob Lanzetti, guitar Roosevelt Collier, steel guitar Jamey Haddad, percussion Keita Ogawa, percussion André Ferrari, percussion An experiment conceived by Snarky Puppy founder and GroundUP Music creator Michael League (who has traded his bass in for a baritone guitar in this group), the process of formation was all but conventional. The music and some of the melodies were written by League, demoed while on tour with other bands, and then sent to Tirolien with lyrical concepts attached. Tirolien then wrote lyrics and melodies, demoing and ping-ponging the new content back to Michael. Many of the musicians had never even met until the first day of recording. By the end of the week-long session in upstate New York's legendary Dreamland Studios, the band felt abnormally cohesive. 'Unity was paramount in the formation of this group,' observed League. 'Though the ensemble is multi-lingual, multi-cultural, and multi-generational, we all feel connected as musicians and people. And in combining our different accents I feel that there is a strangely common and poignant sound, one that can reach and relate to listeners around the world.' Michel Meis 4tet Michel Meis, drums+ compositions Cédric Hanriot, piano Stephan Goldbach, double bass Alisa Klein, trombone Born in Luxembourg Michel Meis made his first experience with the drums at the early age of 7 at the Conservatory of Luxembourg, Luxembourg City. After finishing his diploma's in Chamber Music, Classical Percussion and Jazz drums in 2014 with the teachers Guy Frisch, Paul Mootz, Rainer Kind and Al Ginter, Michel entered the Jazz section of the 'Hochschule für Musik Saar' doing his Bachelor in Jazz drums. Since 2011, Michel is also a member of the Luxembourg Military Band and has played in several Jazz-clubs and festivals like the Hong Kong Jazz Festival, Beishan Jazz Festival, Sibiu Jazz Festival, Fête de la Musique Liege and the Brussels Jazz Marathon. Michel is a drummer with ' Everwaiting Serenade ', Dock in Absolute, Juan Gonzalez Trio. He also played drums for The Grund Club Voices and the Grund Club Quartet in 2015 and 2016. What is this thing called love ( 5 saxo) 'Bird with Strings' (1949) by Charlie Parker is a unique encounter between the world of jazz and classical music. Some of today's best saxophonists return to this repertoire, with new arrangements by Christophe Del Sasso. For the young producer Norman Granz, the signing of Charlie Parker on the Mercury label was a real success story. For several years the saxophonist had been toying with the idea of seizing the opportunity to record music outside his usual quintet. The project 'Charlie Parker with strings' was therefore for him an old dream that he was to bring to reality in 1949. With an oboe, a few violins, a viola, a cello, a harp, a piano, a double bass and drums, he was to give a new sound to the 1930's classics such as 'Just Friends' or 'April in Paris'. Jazz at the Philharmonie celebrates this superb encounter by bringing together Géraldine Laurent (Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros 2015), Pierrick Pédron (Prix du disque français awarded by the Académie du jazz 2013) and Thomas de Pourquery (Artist of the Year at the Victoires du jazz 2017) on new arrangements by Christophe Dal Sasso. Stéphane Kerecki - French Touch Stéphane Kerecki, double bass Julien Lourau, saxophone Fabrice Moreau, drums Jozef Dumoulin, piano, Fender Rhodes Stéphane Kerecki made a name for himself by playing with Daniel Humair, Sheila Jordan, Michel Portal, Jacky Terrasson. He is leading his own trio, with saxophonist Matthieu Donarier and drummer Thomas Grimmonprez. His recordings received many awards, including the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros, Disque d'Emoi de l'année 2007 (Jazz Magazine), Choc du Monde de la Musique a.o. Kerecki's most ambitious project to date, ' Nouvelle Vague ', an homage to the movies of Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Louis Malle, Jacques Demy, and the music it generated, features re-adapted works by Miles Davis, Martial Solal, Georges Delerue, Antoine Duhamel and Michel Legrand.
