The Sound of New York, Damion Reid 'The Sound of New York' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in New York City. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. It's right in New York today that this impulse is stronger than ever: the sounds come from a deep integration of music of the past and today, interacting with other artistic forms. It's a modern concentration of African-American music influences, including classical and contemporary, as well as more mainstream styles such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, R'B, Rock, etc 10 musicians internationally known will lead us into this world walking along the streets of New York. We will see the places where they live and listen to the music they compose to know their artistic essence. Damion Reid is an American drummer. Critics have praised his 'controlled fury' and 'microscopically complex beats.' Born in West Covina, California, he studied with drummer Billy Higgins. Reid was a 1998 recipient of NEC's Alan Dawson Scholarship and in 1999 was accepted into the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at the University of Southern California. Reid has also attended The New School in New York City. He has performed with Greg Osby, Terence Blanchard, Robert Glasper, Cassandra Wilson, Bruce Hornsby, Jacky Terrasson, Ravi Coltrane, Angélique Kidjo, Dianne Reeves, Mark Turner ... and many others. Reid currently performs with Steve Coleman and the Five Elements, Greg Ward's Phonic Juggernaut, the Steve Lehman Trio, various projects led by guitarist Miles Okazaki, Rudresh Mahanthappa and Bunky Green's APEX and the Steve Lehman-Rudresh Mahanthappa co-led project Dual Identity. An Evening with Avishai Cohen INSO-Lviv Orchestra Christian Schumann, Conductor Avishai Cohen , Double bass and vocals Omri Mor, Piano Noam David, Percussion Avishai Cohen is an Israeli jazz bassist, double bass player, composer and arranger who gained fame when he became a member of Chick Corea's band Origin. He has also performed with such stars as Daniel Perez, Bobby McFerrin, Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Jeff Ballard, Roy Hargrove, Herbie Hancock, Paquito D'Rivera and many others. Avishai has recorded 15 albums. Chick Corea considers him 'a genius musician', and Bass Player magazine named him one of the 100 most influential bassists of the 20th century. Moreover, Avishai is also an amazing singer. With support from the Embassy of Israel to Ukraine, Avishai will perform together with the INSO-Lviv Academic Symphony Orchestra. The artistic director of the orchestra, which was founded in 1998, is a People's Artist of Ukraine, legendary composer Myroslav Skoryk. The orchestra has won several awards, including a Radio Swiss Classic Love Award, a Golden Disc from Franz Xaver Mozart Klavierkonzerte and others. 'I think the only way to preserve any tradition is to simply be knowledgeable of it and put a message or whatever you're doing to move it forward ' (Theo Croker) Theodore Lee Croker is a jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader from Leesburg, Florida. He studies in Oberlin Conservatory (Ohio) with jazz artists Gary Bartz, Robin Eubanks, Billy Hart, Wendell Logan, Marcus Belgrave and Dan Wall. In 2006 he was awardedthe Presser Music Foundation Award and use the grant money to record his frist album 'The fundamentals'. In 2013 Croker returned to the USA after a 7 years stay in Shanghai, China, where he broadned his concept of Jazz to encompass other complementary genres such as salsa, fusion-rock, R&B, hip-hop and blues. Then he signed with DDB records to began production in NY on the album 'Afrophysicist' and in 2016 'Escape Velocity' consolidate his status of improviser. João Bosco, lead, guitar/vocals Ricardo Silveira, guitar Guto Wirtti, bass Kiko Freitas, drums João Bosco has been loved in his home country of Brazil for decades, since the 60s when he first began composing and performing. In the early 90s, Bosco mounted a major tour of the US, and since then he has become increasingly popular internationally, regularly performing at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival. Despite his growing popularity outside of his homeland, Bosco remains thoroughly attached to Brazil to the point of never leaving it for extended periods; his music, though rooted in Brazil's classic samba and bossa nova traditions, combines rock and roll, jazz and other ethnic styles in an eclectic brew that is as inventive and challenging as he is. In 2017 Bosco received a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Latin Recording Academy at the 18th Annual Latin Grammy Awards. His new album, Mano Que Zuera, was released at the end of the year. The Sound of New York, Greg Osby 'The Sound of New York' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in New York City. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. It's right in New York today that this impulse is stronger than ever: the sounds come from a deep integration of music of the past and today, interacting with other artistic forms. It's a modern concentration of African-American music influences, including classical and contemporary, as well as more mainstream styles such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, R'B, Rock, etc 10 musicians internationally known will lead us into this world walking along the streets of New York. We will see the places where they live and listen to the music they compose to know their artistic essence. Greg Osby is an alto saxophonist, producer, composer and educator. Osby's main instrument is alto sax but he occasionally plays soprano sax. He played on Jack DeJohnette's album Special Edition and has recorded with Jim Hall and Andrew Hill, setting the stage for their appearance on Osby's The Invisible Hand. With Geri Allen, Steve Coleman, Gary Thomas, and Cassandra Wilson, he was a member of the M-Base Collective. He began recording albums under his own name for JMT Records in the 1980s, then signed with Blue Note in the 1990s and recorded fifteen outstanding recordings for that label as a leader. In the 2008s, he formed his own label, Inner Circle Music. Youn Sun Nah, Festival International de Jazz de Montréal youn Sun Nah, voice Jamie Saft, piano and keyboards Clifton Hyde, guitar TBC and acoustic bass Dan Rieser, drums YSN was born and raised in Seoul in a family captivated by the voice; her father is a choir conductor and her mother is a musical actress. The year after that, she's invited by the Korean Symphony Orchestra to sing gospels. She makes her first steps on record and on stage. Following that experience, she's noticed and hired in musicals. Her appearances are rewarded and new opportunities lead her to make choices: a career is opening to her but she's not convinced to be on the right track. She finally decides to go back to school to study music and singing. Francophile, amateur of chanson, she settles down in Paris during the fall 1995. She registers at the National Institute of Music in Beauvais, at the Conservatory of Nadia and Lili Boulanger and at the CIM, school of jazz and current music. It is in that school that the epiphany happens. During 6 full seasons, her voice and her personality have impacted and touched the hearts all over the globe. About 500 concerts between 2009 and 2015, most of them sold-out, 3 albums and 2 of them gold records in France and Germany (Same girl & Lento, ACT). Throughout this time she has received many distinctions from her peers (Académie du Jazz in France, Echo Jazz in Germany, Korean Music Award in Korea) and appeared at the 2014 Winter Olympics' closing ceremony.
