The Sound of New York, Gerald Clayton 'The Sound of New York' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in New York City. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. It's right in New York today that this impulse is stronger than ever: the sounds come from a deep integration of music of the past and today, interacting with other artistic forms. It's a modern concentration of African-American music influences, including classical and contemporary, as well as more mainstream styles such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, R'B, Rock, etc 10 musicians internationally known will lead us into this world walking along the streets of New York. We will see the places where they live and listen to the music they compose to know their artistic essence. Gerald William Clayton is a jazz pianist and composer born in Utrecht, Netherlands and raised in Los Angeles. Clayton attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, USC's Thornton School of Music, where he studied piano with Billy Childs, and the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Kenny Barron. He has performed and recorded with Roy Hargrove, Diana Krall, Dianne Reeves, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ambrose Akinmusire, Dayna Stephens, Kendrick Scott, Ben Williams, Terell Stafford & Dick Oatts, Michael Rodriguez, Avishai Cohen, Sachal Vasandani, Gretchen Parlato, and the Clayton Brothers Quintet. Clayton also has enjoyed an extended association since early 2013, touring and recording with saxophone legend, Charles Lloyd. 2016 marks his second year as Musical Director of the Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour, a project that features his trio with Ravi Coltrane, Nicolas Payton, and Raul Midón. Osby's main instrument is alto sax but he occasionally plays soprano sax. He played on Jack DeJohnette's album Special Edition and has recorded with Jim Hall and Andrew Hill, setting the stage for their appearance on Osby's The Invisible Hand. With Geri Allen, Steve Coleman, Gary Thomas, and Cassandra Wilson, he was a member of the M-Base Collective. He began recording albums under his own name for JMT Records in the 1980s, then signed with Blue Note in the 1990s and recorded fifteen outstanding recordings for that label as a leader. In the 2008s, he formed his own label, Inner Circle Music. China Moses China Moses, vocals Luigi Grasso, saxophone, keyboard Joe Armon Jones, piano Neil Charles, bass Marijus Aleksa, drums China Moses is an outstanding American vocalist and the daughter of the famous jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater (the headliner at the fourth Alfa Jazz Fest) and Gilbert Moses. She was born in Los Angeles and later moved to Paris. She released her first single, 'Time' (1996), at the age of 16. Her first albums brought her success and fame in France on the soul and pop scene. In addition to her career as a singer and backing vocalist, she also works as a host at Radio Nova and MTV in France. In 2008, she launched her own production company, MadeInChina Productions. In 2009, she released an album called This One's for Dinah (Blue Note France), a tribute to Dinah Washington. Her next album, Crazy Blues, was named by British newspaper The Times as one of the top 100 albums of 2013. At the end of March 2017, she released her long-awaited new album, Nightintales. Critics have praised his 'controlled fury' and 'microscopically complex beats.' Born in West Covina, California, he studied with drummer Billy Higgins. Reid was a 1998 recipient of NEC's Alan Dawson Scholarship and in 1999 was accepted into the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at the University of Southern California. Reid has also attended The New School in New York City. He has performed with Greg Osby, Terence Blanchard, Robert Glasper, Cassandra Wilson, Bruce Hornsby, Jacky Terrasson, Ravi Coltrane, Angélique Kidjo, Dianne Reeves, Mark Turner ... and many others. Chucho Valdés Quartet Chucho Valdés, piano Yelsy Heredia, bass Georvis Pico Milian, drums Pedro Pablo Rodríguez, percussion Chucho Valdés is a Cuban pianist, composer and arranger, a six-time Grammy Award winner and a three-time Latin Grammy Award winner, and one of the most influential Afro-Cuban musicians in history. His father, the famous Cuban pianist and bandleader Ramon 'Bebo' Valdés, was his first teacher. At the age of 3, little Chucho was already playing melodies he heard on the radio by ear with both hands in all kinds of tones. Chucho played in the famous Cuban band Irakere (1973-2005). He was also the band's founder, composer and arranger. Irakere combined traditional Afro-Cuban music, jazz, rock and classical music. Tribute to Irakere: Live at Marciac, dedicated to Irakere's 40th anniversary, won a Grammy Award as the best Latin jazz album of 2016. Chucho plays on tour and also gives music lessons. He recorded a duet with his father, Bebo, 'Juntos Para Siempre' (Grammy Award winner), and an album called Chucho's Steps, where he presented his new band, Afro-Cuban Messengers. The Sound of New York, Theo Croker 'The Sound of New York' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in New York City. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. It's right in New York today that this impulse is stronger than ever: the sounds come from a deep integration of music of the past and today, interacting with other artistic forms. It's a modern concentration of African-American music influences, including classical and contemporary, as well as more mainstream styles such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, R'B, Rock, etc 10 musicians internationally known will lead us into this world walking along the streets of New York. We will see the places where they live and listen to the music they compose to know their artistic essence. 'I think the only way to preserve any tradition is to simply be knowledgeable of it and put a message or whatever you're doing to move it forward ' (Theo Croker) Theodore Lee Croker is a jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader from Leesburg, Florida. He studies in Oberlin Conservatory (Ohio) with jazz artists Gary Bartz, Robin Eubanks, Billy Hart, Wendell Logan, Marcus Belgrave and Dan Wall. In 2006 he was awardedthe Presser Music Foundation Award and use the grant money to record his frist album 'The fundamentals'. In 2013 Croker returned to the USA after a 7 years stay in Shanghai, China, where he broadned his concept of Jazz to encompass other complementary genres such as salsa, fusion-rock, R&B, hip-hop and blues. Then he signed with DDB records to began production in NY on the album 'Afrophysicist' and in 2016 'Escape Velocity' consolidate his status of improviser. Osby's main instrument is alto sax but he occasionally plays soprano sax. He played on Jack DeJohnette's album Special Edition and has recorded with Jim Hall and Andrew Hill, setting the stage for their appearance on Osby's The Invisible Hand. With Geri Allen, Steve Coleman, Gary Thomas, and Cassandra Wilson, he was a member of the M-Base Collective. He began recording albums under his own name for JMT Records in the 1980s, then signed with Blue Note in the 1990s and recorded fifteen outstanding recordings for that label as a leader. In the 2008s, he formed his own label, Inner Circle Music.
