Emile Parisien et Vincent Peirani file under Zawinul Emile Parisien, saxophone soprano Vincent Peirani, accordéon Manu Codjia, guitare Paco Séry, batterie Linley Marthe, basse, Mino Cinelu, percussions Aziz Samahoui, Vocal, percussions Tony Paeleman, Fender Rhodes 2017 marque les dix ans de la disparition d'un monstre sacré du jazz, le claviériste Joe Zawinul. Le saxophoniste Emile Parisien et son binôme Vincent Peirani à l'accordéon lui rendent un hommage juste et fort. Les deux Français ont tout naturellement rassemblé pour cela les anciens compagnons de route du 'groover' autrichien : Paco Sery et Linley Marthe, respectivement batteur et bassiste du Zawinul Syndicate (son dernier groupe), ou bien encore le percussionniste antillais Mino Cinelu qui rejoint Weather Report sur les derniers albums de ce groupe fondamental. L'idée de ce projet File Under Zawinul a mûri lors de l'expérience du saxophoniste Emile Parisien avec le Syndicate, un groupe déjà formé à la mémoire du pianiste viennois. Au sein de ce Syndicate, Parisien croise le guitariste coloriste Manu Codjia et l'architecte sonore Tony Paeleman au Fender Rhodes. Tous deux le rejoindront bientôt dans File Under Zawinul. Le chanteur et percussionniste marocain Aziz Samahoui, également partenaire de jeu de Joe pendant plus d'une décennie, vient enfin s'ajouter à ce véritable all-star international du cosmos Zawinul. Avec Y, son dernier album en date, le pianiste franco-israélien synthétise plus que jamais toutes ses influences. Qu'elles soient jazz, post-rock ou électro, qu'elles viennent de Sufjan Stevens, de Steve Reich ou de Keith Jarrett, ses inspirations sont assumées avec une grâce infinie. Mieux : au lieu de reprendre des tubes populaires comme par le passé (de Britney Spears à Radiohead), il crée désormais les siens sur ce disque de chansons avec ou sans voix, avec ou sans paroles, avec ou sans refrains. Robin McKelle Jazz à Vienne 2016 Avec Robin McKelle, Jake Sherman (claviers), Eli Menezes (guitare), Matt Brandau (basse), Adam Jackson (batterie) Robin McKelle, ou la mutation progressive d'un papillon américano irlandais. Nous sommes en 2006. Introducing déboule sur le marché de la musique et fait sensation. Une grande chanteuse de jazz apparaît, qui fait allégeance au swing en big band, façon années 40. Avec Modern Antique deux ans plus tard, un album de transition, Robin intrigue par la subtilité de ses reprises bluesy et propose sa première composition personnelle. Lorsque Mess Around paraît en 2010, la chanteuse de jazz confirme le virage annoncé et plonge vers un rhythm'n'blues vintage, une soul intemporelle. Elle y signe cette fois quatre titres. Mais c'est la sortie de Soul Flower (2012) qui démontre le mieux la progression de Robin McKelle dont l'écriture prend alors sa pleine dimension. Baigné dans une soul Motown, l'opus à jouer sur un Teppaz fonctionne comme une machine à remonter le temps. Le bien nommé Heart of Memphis (2014), son cinquième album, propose ensuite onze compositions originales dans la pure veine sudiste du légendaire label Stax. En signant aujourd'hui The Looking Glass, produit par Steve Greenwell (récompensé d'un Grammy pour son travail avec Joss Stone), miss McKelle prend définitivement les rênes d'un projet métis, entre soul, jazz et pop. 'Après deux albums orientés old school, je voulais travailler avec Steve pour trouver une nouvelle sonorité, plus intime et contemporaine'. Cory Henry & the Funk Apostles Jazz à Vienne 2016 Avec Cory Henry (claviers, voix) Andrew Bailey (guitare), Erin Jakemore (percussions), Cleon Edwards (batterie), Sharay Reed (basse), Nick Simrod (claviers) Le claviériste, multi instrumentiste et producteur Cory Henry est d'abord remarqué pour son travail au sein des fabuleux Snarky Puppy dont il est devenu l'un des piliers (il était avec eux à Vienne l'année dernière, pour leur deuxième apparition au festival). Mais Henry possède par ailleurs un CV étonnamment bien rempli pour un musicien de son âge. Son parcours de 'special guest' est marqué par ses collaborations avec Kenny Garrett, Lalah Hathaway, The Roots ou Bruce Springsteen. C'est à 19 ans qu'il commence à travailler avec le saxophoniste Kenny Garrett qu'il accompagne pendant trois ans. Puis les demandes arrivent de toutes parts, du pasteur Kirk Franklin ou Robert Glasper à Boyz 2 Men ou NAS. En 2015, il entame sa première tournée européenne à la tête de son propre sextet, The Funk Apostles, avec lequel il aligne les grooves funk les plus imparables mêlés aux influences électriques de la soul, du jazz fusion et de l'electro. L'organiste (son instrument de prédilection) assume ainsi brillamment l'héritage d'une lignée de funkateers des double claviers (Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack McDuff, Lonnie Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Joey DeFrancesco ou John Medeski). Pourtant, Cory Henry semble plutôt puiser son inspiration dans le jeu virtuose de pianistes tels que Art Tatum ou Oscar Peterson. Le Sacre du Printemps Chorégraphie de Vaslav Nijinsky d'après la version de 1913 Musique, Igor Stravinsky Avec Vladimir Ponomarev, Alexandra Losifid, Elena Bazhenova, et le corps de ballet du Théâtre Mariinsky Direction musicale, Valery GERGIEV Orchestre du Théâtre du Mariinsky, Valery Gergiev La création du Sacre du printemps en mai 1913 au Théâtre des Champs-Élysées a provoqué un véritable scandale. Le public est heurté par la violence primitive de la pièce. Le rejet est si radical que le ballet disparaît de l'affiche après huit représentations. Vaslav Nijinsky est ' celui par qui le scandale arrive '. Créateur du Sacre, il a ici ouvert la voix à la danse contemporaine. Oubliée, la chorégraphie originale de Nijinsky a pu être reconstituée grâce au travail acharné de Millicent Hodson. Après quinze années de recherches, elle est parvenue, avec l'aide notamment de Marie Rambert, qui avait été l'assistante de Nijinski, à recomposer le Sacre originel. La re-création de cette chorégraphie est à tous points originale jusque dans les costumes. Elle est dansée par la compagnie-même qui lui avait donné naissance sous le nom des Ballets Russes. A fitting and powerful tribute to him comes from saxophonist Emile Parisien and partner in crime Vincent Peirani on the accordion. The two Frenchmen have brought their fellow Austrian 'groove' explorers on board: Paco Sery and Linley Marthe, respectively drummer and bassist in the Zawinul Syndicate (his last group) and West Indian percussionist Mino Cinelu who performed on the last albums for the game-changing Weather Report. The idea behind the File Under Zawinul project came from saxophonist Emile Parisien's time with the Syndicate, a band formed in tribute to the Viennese pianist. Parisien met the vibrant guitarist Manu Codjia and sound architect Tony Paeleman on his Fender Rhodes at the Syndicate who are both to join File Under Zawinul. The Moroccan singer and percussionist Aziz Samahoui who performed with Joe for over 10 years will also be part of the international all-star Zawinul line-up. Emile Parisien et Vincent Peirani File under Zawinul Emile Parisien, Saxophone soprano Vincent Peirani, Accordion Manu Codjia, Guitar Paco Séry,Drums Linley Marthe, Bass Mino Cinelu, Percussion Aziz Samahoui, Vocal, percussion Tony Paeleman, Fender Rhodes 2017 is the 10th anniversary of Joe Zawinul's death, the high priest of jazz keyboardists. A fitting and powerful tribute to him comes from saxophonist Emile Parisien and partner in crime Vincent Peirani on the accordion. The two Frenchmen have brought their fellow Austrian 'groove' explorers on board: Paco Sery and Linley Marthe, respectively drummer and bassist in the Zawinul Syndicate (his last group) and West Indian percussionist Mino Cinelu who performed on the last albums for the game-changing Weather Report. The idea behind the File Under Zawinul project came from saxophonist Emile Parisien's time with the Syndicate, a band formed in tribute to the Viennese pianist. Parisien met the vibrant guitarist Manu Codjia and sound architect Tony Paeleman on his Fender Rhodes at the Syndicate who are both to join File Under Zawinul. The Moroccan singer and percussionist Aziz Samahoui who performed with Joe for over 10 years will also be part of the international all-star Zawinul line-up.
