Mike Stern (guitar) Niels Lan Doky (piano) Richard Bona (bass) Manu Katché (drums) The Cameroonian international artist Richard Bona at first became known as a bass player in the company of jazz musicians before beginning a career as a singer and composer in 1999. He interprets his own songs and now has more than half a dozen albums under his belt. Jazz Grand Prix winner of the SACEM, Richard Bona never cheats, but then, he doesn't need to. For those who may be unaware, Mike Stern is one of the greatest jazz-rock guitarists, and has been for more than twenty years now. Pupil of Pat Metheny, he was at first spotted by Billy Cobham and then by Miles Davis at the beginning of the 1980's, he was then taken on by Jaco Pastorius and an active member of 'Steps Ahead' with Danny Sanborn before starting out on a promising solo career . The drummer and percussionist Manu Katché has been for some thirty years one of the most sought after musicians at an international level on the jazz, rock and pop scenes. He became known in 1986 thanks to his participation in the album 'So' by Peter Gabriel and since then has been performing non-stop in groups or for recordings, as leader or as sideman. Zakir Hussain (tabla) Chris Potter (saxophone) Dave Holland (double bass) The Indian composer and percussionist Zakir Hussain is THE tabla player of his generation. The tabla is a percussion instrument from the north of India which does indeed give rhythm to the musician's compositions as much when he is performing solo as here when he is accompanied by the bass player Dave Holland or the tenor saxophonist Chris Potter. Considered as a national treasure in India, this artist accrues performances with no less than 150 concerts per year and a career which began at 12 years of age! Perhaps the most impressive virtuoso of the tenor saxophone according to Michel Contat of Télérama, Chris Potter comes from the generation of saxophonists who came to the fore during the course of the 1990's alongside Joshua Redman, James Carter, Chris Cheek and Seamus Blake. Very quickly, this native of Chicago attracted attention because of his succulent tenor sound and a very personal manner of constructing his solos, imposing himself as a reference amongst his peers. Dave Holland's class! This majestic double bass with a round sound. A self-taught double bass player whose atypical manner of playing and magnificent sound were quickly noticed by a certain Miles Davis. A great composer as well. Stéphane Kerecki - French Touch Stéphane Kerecki, double bass Julien Lourau, saxophone Fabrice Moreau, drums Jozef Dumoulin, piano, Fender Rhodes Stéphane Kerecki made a name for himself by playing with Daniel Humair, Sheila Jordan, Michel Portal, Jacky Terrasson. He is leading his own trio, with saxophonist Matthieu Donarier and drummer Thomas Grimmonprez. His recordings received many awards, including the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros, Disque d'Emoi de l'année 2007 (Jazz Magazine), Choc du Monde de la Musique a.o. Kerecki's most ambitious project to date, ' Nouvelle Vague ', an homage to the movies of Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Louis Malle, Jacques Demy, and the music it generated, features re-adapted works by Miles Davis, Martial Solal, Georges Delerue, Antoine Duhamel and Michel Legrand. QVENILD PERSONAL PIANO @ Oslo Jazz Festival 2016 Morten Qvenild, a member of In The Country, who also accompanies Susanna Wallumrød in Susanna & The Magical Orchestra, presents a very personal kind of music. Qvenild drifts away from jazz standards, presenting works performed on his 'HyPer(sonal) Piano', a keyboard augmented with electronics. The Norwegian musician's compositions are varied, and may include his own vocals. He sometimes reduces the accompaniment to a bare minimum, a few melodic touches to support the melancholy of his timbre (Wild Horses). He feels at liberty, for example, to break the continuity of a piece like Kick And Glide, speeding up the tempo and calling on programs to give his piano a psychedelic and futuristic touch - in the company of a distorted guitar - taking us far away from traditional jazz. In 1991 he founded a quartet which today is composed of Benoît Corboz (keyboards), Marcello Giuliani (bass) and Marc Erbetta (drums and percussion),he explores electronic jazz-fusion much in the same way as Miles Davis and recorded several albums starting from 1994. After an incursion into into rock at the head of his Ladybird Quartet created in 2001, he returned to the formula which had made him successful. In his world, always deeply influenced by Miles Davis, the stridencies of rock alternate with the poetic respites, the rousing grooves with more calm ballads. Con Brio produced their first EP, Kiss The Sun, in 2015 and are already famous on the West Coast for their electric concerts and Ziek McCarter's velvety vocals. QVENILD PERSONAL PIANO @ Oslo Jazz Festival 2016 Morten Qvenild, a member of In The Country, who also accompanies Susanna Wallumrød in Susanna & The Magical Orchestra, presents a very personal kind of music. Qvenild drifts away from jazz standards, presenting works performed on his 'HyPer(sonal) Piano', a keyboard augmented with electronics. The Norwegian musician's compositions are varied, and may include his own vocals. He sometimes reduces the accompaniment to a bare minimum, a few melodic touches to support the melancholy of his timbre (Wild Horses). He feels at liberty, for example, to break the continuity of a piece like Kick And Glide, speeding up the tempo and calling on programs to give his piano a psychedelic and futuristic touch - in the company of a distorted guitar - taking us far away from traditional jazz. The drummer and percussionist Manu Katché has been for some thirty years one of the most sought after musicians at an international level on the jazz, rock and pop scenes. He became known in 1986 thanks to his participation in the album 'So' by Peter Gabriel and since then has been performing non-stop in groups or for recordings, as leader or as sideman. The tabla is a percussion instrument from the north of India which does indeed give rhythm to the musician's compositions as much when he is performing solo as here when he is accompanied by the bass player Dave Holland or the tenor saxophonist Chris Potter. Considered as a national treasure in India, this artist accrues performances with no less than 150 concerts per year and a career which began at 12 years of age! Perhaps the most impressive virtuoso of the tenor saxophone according to Michel Contat of Télérama, Chris Potter comes from the generation of saxophonists who came to the fore during the course of the 1990's alongside Joshua Redman, James Carter, Chris Cheek and Seamus Blake. Very quickly, this native of Chicago attracted attention because of his succulent tenor sound and a very personal manner of constructing his solos, imposing himself as a reference amongst his peers.
