In 1991 he founded a quartet which today is composed of Benoît Corboz (keyboards), Marcello Giuliani (bass) and Marc Erbetta (drums and percussion),he explores electronic jazz-fusion much in the same way as Miles Davis and recorded several albums starting from 1994. After an incursion into into rock at the head of his Ladybird Quartet created in 2001, he returned to the formula which had made him successful. In his world, always deeply influenced by Miles Davis, the stridencies of rock alternate with the poetic respites, the rousing grooves with more calm ballads. New Orleans, Street Jazz & Dirty Rap Documentary by Samuel Petit New Orleans is like no other city in the United States. Proud of its French past, its heart beats to the rhythm of jazz - the city even gave its name to a specific style of jazz. Director Samuel Petit follows Rusty Lazer, a DJ and producer of 'bounce music' - a local style of hip hop -, members of the legendary Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Trombone Shorty, a musician who has become a symbol of the city's new musical tradition. Considered as a national treasure in India, this artist accrues performances with no less than 150 concerts per year and a career which began at 12 years of age! Perhaps the most impressive virtuoso of the tenor saxophone according to Michel Contat of Télérama, Chris Potter comes from the generation of saxophonists who came to the fore during the course of the 1990's alongside Joshua Redman, James Carter, Chris Cheek and Seamus Blake. Very quickly, this native of Chicago attracted attention because of his succulent tenor sound and a very personal manner of constructing his solos, imposing himself as a reference amongst his peers. Dave Holland's class! This majestic double bass with a round sound. A self-taught double bass player whose atypical manner of playing and magnificent sound were quickly noticed by a certain Miles Davis. A great composer as well. For its first performance (1864) Rossini arranged the work with only two pianos and harmonium. Partly for fear that it would be done anyway after his death, Rossini discreetly orchestrated the Petite Messe Solennelle during 1866-67, without losing its candor and subtlety. QVENILD PERSONAL PIANO @ Oslo Jazz Festival 2016 Morten Qvenild, a member of In The Country, who also accompanies Susanna Wallumrød in Susanna & The Magical Orchestra, presents a very personal kind of music. Qvenild drifts away from jazz standards, presenting works performed on his 'HyPer(sonal) Piano', a keyboard augmented with electronics. The Norwegian musician's compositions are varied, and may include his own vocals. He sometimes reduces the accompaniment to a bare minimum, a few melodic touches to support the melancholy of his timbre (Wild Horses). He feels at liberty, for example, to break the continuity of a piece like Kick And Glide, speeding up the tempo and calling on programs to give his piano a psychedelic and futuristic touch - in the company of a distorted guitar - taking us far away from traditional jazz. Tigran, Festival International de Jazz de Montreal Tigran, Hamasyan, piano With pianist/composer Tigran Hamasyan, potent jazz improvisation fuses with the rich folkloric music of his native Armenia. Turning 30 in 2017, he's one of the most remarkable and distinctive jazz-meets-rock pianists of his generation. A piano virtuoso with groove power, Tigran's latest adventurous project is 2017's An Ancient Observer, his second solo album, his eighth overall as a sole leader, and his sophomore recording for Nonesuch. (Overall, this is his eighth recording as a sole leader.) Conceptually, An Ancient Observer is a poignant album focusing on the art of observing. Tigran's career has included an impressive number of accolades, including top piano award at the 2013 Montreux Jazz Festival and the grand prize at the prestigious 2006 Thelonious Monk Jazz Piano Competition. Shabaka and the Ancestors Shabaka Hutchings, saxophone, tenor Hutchings was born in 1984 in London. He moved to Barbados at the age of six, began studying classical clarinet aged nine and remained until sixteen. Shabaka's primary project is the group Sons of Kemet, which won the 2013 MOBO Award for Jazz Act of the Year. In June 2014 Shabaka was invited to join the Sun Ra Arkestra, performing with them and recording a session for BBC Radio 3. He has performed and recorded with Courtney Pine's Jazz Warriors, Mulatu Astatke and the Heliocentrics, Polar Bear and Soweto Kinch. Some of the many notable musicians he has shared the stage with include Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden and the Liberation Music Orchestra, Louis Moholo, Evan Parker, King Sunny Ade and Orlando Julius to name a few. Mike Stern (guitar) Niels Lan Doky (piano) Richard Bona (bass) Manu Katché (drums) The Cameroonian international artist Richard Bona at first became known as a bass player in the company of jazz musicians before beginning a career as a singer and composer in 1999. He interprets his own songs and now has more than half a dozen albums under his belt. Jazz Grand Prix winner of the SACEM, Richard Bona never cheats, but then, he doesn't need to. For those who may be unaware, Mike Stern is one of the greatest jazz-rock guitarists, and has been for more than twenty years now. Pupil of Pat Metheny, he was at first spotted by Billy Cobham and then by Miles Davis at the beginning of the 1980's, he was then taken on by Jaco Pastorius and an active member of 'Steps Ahead' with Danny Sanborn before starting out on a promising solo career . The drummer and percussionist Manu Katché has been for some thirty years one of the most sought after musicians at an international level on the jazz, rock and pop scenes. He became known in 1986 thanks to his participation in the album 'So' by Peter Gabriel and since then has been performing non-stop in groups or for recordings, as leader or as sideman.
