China Moses China Moses, vocals Luigi Grasso, saxophone, keyboard Joe Armon Jones, piano Neil Charles, bass Marijus Aleksa, drums China Moses is an outstanding American vocalist and the daughter of the famous jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater (the headliner at the fourth Alfa Jazz Fest) and Gilbert Moses. She was born in Los Angeles and later moved to Paris. She released her first single, 'Time' (1996), at the age of 16. Her first albums brought her success and fame in France on the soul and pop scene. In addition to her career as a singer and backing vocalist, she also works as a host at Radio Nova and MTV in France. In 2008, she launched her own production company, MadeInChina Productions. In 2009, she released an album called This One's for Dinah (Blue Note France), a tribute to Dinah Washington. Her next album, Crazy Blues, was named by British newspaper The Times as one of the top 100 albums of 2013. At the end of March 2017, she released her long-awaited new album, Nightintales. China co-hosted and sang at the first UNESCO International Jazz Day in Paris, and she also often performs concerts for US UNESCO. His return to Marciac where he presented his latest album marked the apotheosis of an evening entirely devoted to popular Brazilian music. From muted sambas to classy bossas, they are part of popular Brazilian music that the musician in his seventies has always stood up for. Amaury faye Trio Amaury Faye, piano Louis Navarro, double bass Théo Lanau, percussion In keeping with the big piano trios and Big Moe Trio (in 2010), perfected from his Toulouse kingdom, the new project from Amaury Faye tells his story. He takes inspiration from artists on the contemporary New York scene and the latest trends in European jazz. Amaury Faye went to study at Berklee College in Boston with pianist Joanne Brackeen (Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon) and Tia Fuller (Joe Lovano) in 2014. The pianist is a member of the Toulouse-based Initiative H alongside his trio. Their repertoire includes original tracks and cool covers. There's a blend of improvisation and writing, virtuosity and finesse, lyricism and undulating beats (e.g. on the Fender Rhodes). An Evening with Avishai Cohen INSO-Lviv Orchestra Christian Schumann, Conductor Avishai Cohen , Double bass and vocals Omri Mor, Piano Noam David, Percussion Avishai Cohen is an Israeli jazz bassist, double bass player, composer and arranger who gained fame when he became a member of Chick Corea's band Origin. He has also performed with such stars as Daniel Perez, Bobby McFerrin, Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Jeff Ballard, Roy Hargrove, Herbie Hancock, Paquito D'Rivera and many others. Avishai has recorded 15 albums. Chick Corea considers him 'a genius musician', and Bass Player magazine named him one of the 100 most influential bassists of the 20th century. Moreover, Avishai is also an amazing singer. With support from the Embassy of Israel to Ukraine, Avishai will perform together with the INSO-Lviv Academic Symphony Orchestra. The artistic director of the orchestra, which was founded in 1998, is a People's Artist of Ukraine, legendary composer Myroslav Skoryk. The orchestra has won several awards, including a Radio Swiss Classic Love Award, a Golden Disc from Franz Xaver Mozart Klavierkonzerte and others. The performance with Avishai will be a new jazz experience for INSO-Lviv, following the orchestra's collaboration with composer and pianist Vadim Neselovskyi. Yaron Herman trio Yaron Herman, Piano, KIeyboard Bastien Burger, Bass, Vocal, Keyboard Ziv Ravitz, drums, electronics Everyday, his duo with Ziv Ravitz in 2015 and first album for Blue Note, the first disc with songs, felt like a comeback for Yaron Herman. The French-Israeli's latest album, 'Y', is a real melting pot of all his influences. His inspirations are explored with pure elegance be they jazz, post-rock or electro by Sufjan Stevens, Steve Reich or Keith Jarrett. Better still, instead of covering mainstream songs like he used to (from Britney Spears to Radiohead), he's made his own songs with or without vocals, words or choruses. Guillaume Perret Guillaume Perret, saxophone, machines The saxophonist from Annecy (born in 1980) racked up the pressure on the contemporary jazz scene (from 2009) with his group The Electric Epic. Three years later and John Zorn himself described it as 'a whirlwind of emotion' and released the extravert, panoramic and electric fusion on his Tzadik record label. It was an explosion of sound with funky beats and quirky harmonies blending metal, electro, Africa, psychedelia and the hot wind of free style. After two incredible albums with Electric Epic, Guillaume Perret is going it alone with his new album Free (2016). Perret's sense of solitude is comparable to Deleuze's opening to Mille Plateaux: 'Since there were many of all of us, there were already too many people.' Lady Quartet Rhoda Scott (organ), Airelle Besson (trumpet), Lisa Cat-Berro (saxophone alto), Géraldine Laurent (saxophone alto) Sophie Alour (Saxophone tenor) Julie Saury (drums) Special guest Bernard Purdie (drums) Since 2004, the organist Rhoda Scott has been at the helm (sparked by an idea from Jazz à Vienne) of the torrid and well-named Lady Quartet, in the company of her Amazons Lisa Cat-Berro, Julie Saury and Sophie Alour. As euphoric and punchy as her young companions in the heat of the action, Rhoda Scott is one of the few still to use the pedals on her Hammond organ. Hence her nickname, 'the barefoot organist' (or 'the absolute toe' in the words of Luigi Trussardi!). After helping to raise the temperature in French jazz venues for the past 50 years, Lady Scott will be celebrating her eightieth birthday this year. She'll be blowing out the boogie candles and setting the gospel cake and soulful chorus on fire. The organist is the daughter of a travelling pastor from New Jersey and grew up in religious communities. She graduated with a master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music and set off for France to complete her studies with Nadia Boulanger. Back in New York, she began by playing with Count Basie. But then she decided to try her luck in Paris, where she arrived right in the month of May 1968. Featuring original compositions and covers ranging from Trenet to Wayne Shorter, 'We Free Queens' (2017), with the title proudly adapted from 'We Free Kings' by Roland Kirk, was recorded live. For Vienne a Lady All-Stars is billed, with Airelle Besson (trumpet), Géraldine Laurent (tenor saxophone) and Anne Pacéo (drums), plus the drummer Bernard Purdie.
