Youn Sun Nah, Festival International de Jazz de Montréal youn Sun Nah, voice Jamie Saft, piano and keyboards Clifton Hyde, guitar TBC and acoustic bass Dan Rieser, drums YSN was born and raised in Seoul in a family captivated by the voice; her father is a choir conductor and her mother is a musical actress. The year after that, she's invited by the Korean Symphony Orchestra to sing gospels. She makes her first steps on record and on stage. Following that experience, she's noticed and hired in musicals. Her appearances are rewarded and new opportunities lead her to make choices: a career is opening to her but she's not convinced to be on the right track. She finally decides to go back to school to study music and singing. Francophile, amateur of chanson, she settles down in Paris during the fall 1995. She registers at the National Institute of Music in Beauvais, at the Conservatory of Nadia and Lili Boulanger and at the CIM, school of jazz and current music. It is in that school that the epiphany happens. During 6 full seasons, her voice and her personality have impacted and touched the hearts all over the globe. About 500 concerts between 2009 and 2015, most of them sold-out, 3 albums and 2 of them gold records in France and Germany (Same girl & Lento, ACT). Throughout this time she has received many distinctions from her peers (Académie du Jazz in France, Echo Jazz in Germany, Korean Music Award in Korea) and appeared at the 2014 Winter Olympics' closing ceremony. In May 2017, YSN release a new album: She Moves On. She'll be on tour during the whole season of 2017-2018. Respectful to his elders (Dolphy, Coleman, Mingus...) but free of musical clans, the powerful Californian saxophonist, a real phenomenon, assures his singularity on stage. Mixing audiences and generations around a music with an electrifying groove, he takes in all of the heritage of the Great Black Music. What is this thing called love ( 5 saxo) 'Bird with Strings' (1949) by Charlie Parker is a unique encounter between the world of jazz and classical music. Some of today's best saxophonists return to this repertoire, with new arrangements by Christophe Del Sasso. For the young producer Norman Granz, the signing of Charlie Parker on the Mercury label was a real success story. For several years the saxophonist had been toying with the idea of seizing the opportunity to record music outside his usual quintet. The project 'Charlie Parker with strings' was therefore for him an old dream that he was to bring to reality in 1949. With an oboe, a few violins, a viola, a cello, a harp, a piano, a double bass and drums, he was to give a new sound to the 1930's classics such as 'Just Friends' or 'April in Paris'. Jazz at the Philharmonie celebrates this superb encounter by bringing together Géraldine Laurent (Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros 2015), Pierrick Pédron (Prix du disque français awarded by the Académie du jazz 2013) and Thomas de Pourquery (Artist of the Year at the Victoires du jazz 2017) on new arrangements by Christophe Dal Sasso.
