For several years the saxophonist had been toying with the idea of seizing the opportunity to record music outside his usual quintet. The project 'Charlie Parker with strings' was therefore for him an old dream that he was to bring to reality in 1949. With an oboe, a few violins, a viola, a cello, a harp, a piano, a double bass and drums, he was to give a new sound to the 1930's classics such as 'Just Friends' or 'April in Paris'. Youn Sun Nah, Festival International de Jazz de Montréal youn Sun Nah, voice Jamie Saft, piano and keyboards Clifton Hyde, guitar TBC and acoustic bass Dan Rieser, drums YSN was born and raised in Seoul in a family captivated by the voice; her father is a choir conductor and her mother is a musical actress. The year after that, she's invited by the Korean Symphony Orchestra to sing gospels. She makes her first steps on record and on stage. Following that experience, she's noticed and hired in musicals. Her appearances are rewarded and new opportunities lead her to make choices: a career is opening to her but she's not convinced to be on the right track. She finally decides to go back to school to study music and singing. Francophile, amateur of chanson, she settles down in Paris during the fall 1995. She registers at the National Institute of Music in Beauvais, at the Conservatory of Nadia and Lili Boulanger and at the CIM, school of jazz and current music. It is in that school that the epiphany happens. During 6 full seasons, her voice and her personality have impacted and touched the hearts all over the globe. About 500 concerts between 2009 and 2015, most of them sold-out, 3 albums and 2 of them gold records in France and Germany (Same girl & Lento, ACT). Throughout this time she has received many distinctions from her peers (Académie du Jazz in France, Echo Jazz in Germany, Korean Music Award in Korea) and appeared at the 2014 Winter Olympics' closing ceremony. In May 2017, YSN release a new album: She Moves On. She'll be on tour during the whole season of 2017-2018. The unexpected on all fronts, Hervé Koubi A film by Sonia Paramo Co-authored by Bérengère Alfort and Sonia Paramo. Trained at the Rosella Hightower International Dance Centre in Cannes and then at the Marseilles Opera, he became one of Claude Brumachon's artists at the Centre Chorégraphique national in Nantes, Karine Saporta at the Centre Chorégraphique national in Caen and Thierry Smits for the Compagnie Thor in Brussels. In 2000 he produced his first project'Le Golem', in 2008 he undertook three choreographic trials based on three works: Coppélia, une fiancée aux yeux d'émail...', 'Les Suprêmes' and 'Bref séjour chez les vivants'.In 2010, he started a Mediterranean project interspersed with a number of first performances El Din' (2010-2011), 'Ce que le jour doit à la nuit' (2013), 'Des hommes qui dansent' (2014), 'Les nuits barbares' (2015), 'Les premiers matins du monde' (2016). Hervé Koubi's dance is made up of poetry, nourished with calligraphy, with sculpture, influenced by street dancing such as hip-hop but also the contribution of artists coming from very different horizons. The choreographer's company is a reflection of this cultural blending. We are going to set off on a voyage with Hervé Koubi and his company, who in January 2018 will begin a tour of the United States (including amongst other venues the prestigious Joyce Theater in New York) the French West Indies, and concluding at the Bolchoï Theatre in Moscow. Some of today's best saxophonists return to this repertoire, with new arrangements by Christophe Del Sasso. For the young producer Norman Granz, the signing of Charlie Parker on the Mercury label was a real success story. For several years the saxophonist had been toying with the idea of seizing the opportunity to record music outside his usual quintet. The project 'Charlie Parker with strings' was therefore for him an old dream that he was to bring to reality in 1949. With an oboe, a few violins, a viola, a cello, a harp, a piano, a double bass and drums, he was to give a new sound to the 1930's classics such as 'Just Friends' or 'April in Paris'. My father brought me up on blues before I could even walk, and I played the organ before having learnt to speak.'Lucky Peterson, The precocious, classy little baby's bottle was thrown into music as soon as he was born.To this die-hard blues man, who is the guardian of the flame, he was able to add a well-chosen dose of groove. There is no doubt that it was a suitable way to honour Jimmy Smith, who was a reference in the realm of jazz soul and with whom he had exchanged in his youth. Finally this dive into history reminds us how much the hymns of the 1950's and 1960's remain incredibly sensual, enough to encourage the choir of a church to dance...
