Sun Ra is a clear touchstone for futurists band The Comet is coming. They're formed of saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings (aka King Shabaka), and the two members of Soccer96: synths guy Dan Leavers (aka Danalogue The Conqueror) and drums man Maxwell Hallett (aka Betamax Killer). Formed in 2013 after saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings spontaneously joined funk duo Soccer96 on stage, the trio combines Sun Ra's mythological themes and love of the experimental, whipping up a fusion of jazz, Afrobeat and electronica in an improvisational, intergalactic mash-upstyle, starting with an orthodox jazz sensibility and taking it to the dancefloor. For millennia, humankind has viewed comets as harbingers of doom, portents of change and destruction. The Comet Is Coming are here to recognize these world-altering prophecies and to help us dance like it's the end of the world. He interprets his own songs and now has more than half a dozen albums under his belt. Jazz Grand Prix winner of the SACEM, Richard Bona never cheats, but then, he doesn't need to. For those who may be unaware, Mike Stern is one of the greatest jazz-rock guitarists, and has been for more than twenty years now. Pupil of Pat Metheny, he was at first spotted by Billy Cobham and then by Miles Davis at the beginning of the 1980's, he was then taken on by Jaco Pastorius and an active member of 'Steps Ahead' with Danny Sanborn before starting out on a promising solo career . The drummer and percussionist Manu Katché has been for some thirty years one of the most sought after musicians at an international level on the jazz, rock and pop scenes. He became known in 1986 thanks to his participation in the album 'So' by Peter Gabriel and since then has been performing non-stop in groups or for recordings, as leader or as sideman. At the age of nineteen, Shai Maestro began his career with Avishai Cohen as an accompanist. After a few years performing all around the world, the time for independence came in 2011. Brought up on traditional music, classical and jazz, Shai Maestro polished his pianistic style and his skills as a composer. He also chose the best sidemen: Ziv Ravitz on drums (Lee Konitz, Esperanza Splading...) and Jorge Roeder on the double bass (Roy Haynes, Gary Burton, Julian Lage...). The trio is mesmerizing on record, magical on stage.

Omar Sosa & Yilian Canizares Omar Sosa (piano) Yilian Cañizares (voix, violin), Gustavo Ovalles (percussions) Since leaving Cuba in 1993 and his first albums (Omar Omar and Free Roots, in 1997), Omar Sosa has been on quite a journey. The pianist's thrilling melting pot music is rooted in his Afro-Cuban background, jazz, hip hop, electro, world music and Yoruba spirituality. He formed an incredible trio with Paolo Fresu and Trilok Gurtu to visit us in 2016 for his thirtieth album (Eros). Following Transparent Water bottled with Seckou Keita's kora and the faithful Cuban percussionist Gustavo Ovalles, the Es:sensual (2018) escape with the NDR Bigband and Jacques Morelenbaum, the pianist in white is back with the singer and violinist Yilian Cañizares (born in Havana, based in Switzerland). They've just recorded Agua together, another album devoted to water and specifically Oshun, the goddess of love and spirit of rivers. Something special was sparked with Yilian who came into the public eye with two vibrant albums (Ochumare and Invocacíon). Omar Sosa: 'Agua reflects our traditions, our emotions and our nostalgia. The musical rendezvous of Malian vocalist Fatoumata Diawara and the Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca is a unique genre-bending collaboration. Diawara, 32, combines his native country's musical tradition and pop influences with remarkable ease. Fonseca, a Buena Vista Social club collaborator, treks the various paths suggested by the rich musical tradition of Africa and Cuba, always adding something contemporary to the mix.

Brought into the limelight by Miles Davis in the 1980's, John Scofield explores all forms of jazz, including the blues, funk and country music. The American musician teams up with Steve Swallow, who now plays electric bass, and Bill Stewart on drums. John Scofield began playing the guitar as a teenager, discovered the standards of jazz before being drawn to jazz-rock and studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In the 1970's, his career started as a side man with trumpeter and singer Chet Baker and pianist George Duke, among others. In the 1980's the general public discovered his swing, when he played for three years alongside the legendary Miles Davis. Later, Sco's brand of jazz fusion absorbed elements of soul and of the 'New Orleans Spirit', as he played with the greatest musicians of his generation, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Jim Hall.
