Nominated in 2003 and 2004 for the BBC 'Rising Star' Jazz Award, in 2005 Polar Bear were nominated for the Mercury Prize. Following their excellent album 'Peepers' (2010), the band took a long break, returning to make it onto the Mercury Prize shortlist in 2014 with 'In Each and Every One'. The tracks on this CD are musical slow food, finely spiced and prepared: minimalism and electronics meet funk, free jazz and complex dance rhythms. Their new CD 'Same as You' was actually conceived of as a single piece, finally resulting in six tracks in which the ensemble develop their sound experiments.

The bizarre society was founded in the 19th century in Great Britain and it still believes that pictures taken from space are false. The eponymous 1998 Big Band from Belgium, however, plays anything but flat music. The claim to fame came for this jazz orchestra, founded by artist and clarinettist Peter Vermeersch in 2004, as he and pianist Uri Caine went on tour. In 2006 they released their first CD, 'Psychoscout', followed by their second CD, 'Clear Me, Perverts!' in 2009. A rebel and anti-conformist ensemble with a lot to offer, from faithful adherence to music rules to intoxicating improvisation.

Keziah Jones Keziah Jones, vocal, guitar Joel Grant, bass Joshua McKenzie, percussion Keziah Jones was born into a wealthy family in 1968 in Lagos, Nigeria. He was sent to school in England at the age of 8 and he taught himself to play the piano and guitar in London. He gradually created a stunning rhythmic blend of smooth funk, Hendrix-style psychedelia, pure Ikeja reggae and Yoruba harmonies. He called it BluFunk. Keziah Jones hung out English pubs in central London before heading to Paris where he was spotted in the underground in 1991. The album Blufunk Is a Fact and the track Rhythm is Love were international hits. After venturing through the desert of the mid-90s, he struck gold in 2003 with his fourth album Black Orpheus then the unstoppable Nigerian Wood (2008). Keziah completed an ambitious double album in 2013 flitting between Los Angeles, Spain and his kingdoms in London and Lagos. The dandy fighter is well and truly back to win over his audience. Daymé Arocena @ Worldwide festival 2015 Daymé was part of the Havana Cultura Mix project, which saw Gilles Peterson mentoring selected producers from around the world to make a record in Cuba with local musicians. Troyka Chris Montague - guitar, loop Joshua Blackmore - drums Kit Downes - organ Troyka are rooted in the jazz tradition and are at the same time hiply contemporary. Atmospheres often change in a single piece, almost to the point of paradox: hard and aggressive guitar riffs mix with gentle keyboard motifs, while composition and improvisation combine as one. This blend of garage rock, jazz improvisations and dance music defies labelling: the band sound like 'King Crimson for the iPod generation,' as the London listings magazine 'Time Out' put it. One thing is for sure: this trio forms part of a generation of young musicians who reject the limits of genre, with the decisive question no longer 'What is it?' but 'Is it good?'.

Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah Christian Scott, trumpet, Reverse Flugel, Sirenette Lawrence Fields, piano and keyboard Max Moran (b) Mike Mitchell, percussion Elena Pinderhughes, flute Weedie Braimah, drums 27 year old Christian Scott embodies the new generation of New Orleans trumpeters, a seminal dynasty that started with the legendary King Oliver and Louis Armstrong and continued with Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard and Nicholas Payton. The trumpeter trained at Berklee College of Music in Boston and his warm tone and unusual round notes are instantly recognisable. After working with McCoy Tyner, Prince, Marcus Miller, Eddie Palmieri, Mos Def, Thom Yorke and Solange Knowles, the musician from Crescent City is now the pin-up boy for jazz fusion. His grandfather is the iconic Big Chief Donald Harrison Sr. who managed four tribes of Black Indians (Christian actually started out in one in 1989). The Louisiana trumpeter's sound straddles hip hop, soul and jazz and he appeared a decade ago with the album Rewind That (2006). He was hit by the full force of Hurricane Katrina and devoted his next record (Anthem, 2007) to portraying the human and cultural disaster. After Live at Newport, he recorded Yesterday You Said Tomorrow in 2010 inspired by the 60s groovy jazz played by artists on the Blue Note record label. Christian Scott is one of a long line of Louisiana artists who have been reinventing jazz music for over a century. R+R=Now Robert Glasper (keyboards), Terrace Martin (saxophone), Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah (trumpet), Derrick Hodge (bass), Justin Tyson (drums), Taylor McFerrin (keyboard, vocals) The saxophonist Terrace Martin, the multi-instrumentalist and producer from Los Angeles, who can be heard in some of the biggest hits of Kendrick Lamar and YG or backing Snoop Dogg, Billy Higgins and Herbie Hancock, has just completed a busy year. Along with the release of 'Sounds of Crenshaw Vol.1', an album by his group The Pollyseeds (with, among others, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper and Problem), as well as his contribution to the famous 'Loyalty' by the duo K. Lamar/Rihanna, he has produced the latest album by YG and toured with Herbie Hancock, whose current work he is also producing. To round off the year, he whipped up the crowds last year with Robert Glasper and a real Who's Who in contemporary US jazz (see line-up) in the supergroup concept named R+R=Now. The pianist Robert Glasper announced and described the project to Billboard: 'we all come from the same concrete garden and we make fluid, honest and open music ranging from jazz, hip hop and EDM to reggae!' Formed in 2004, Snarky Puppy was once a happy student dand of North Texas University. They are today one of the most exciting band in the world funk scene. Snarky Puppy members had played with big names and not just Jazz's : Snoop Dodd, Erykah Badu, Chaka Khan, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Jason Marsalis and many more. Shabaka and the Ancestors Shabaka Hutchings, saxophone, tenor Hutchings was born in 1984 in London. He moved to Barbados at the age of six, began studying classical clarinet aged nine and remained until sixteen. Shabaka's primary project is the group Sons of Kemet, which won the 2013 MOBO Award for Jazz Act of the Year. In June 2014 Shabaka was invited to join the Sun Ra Arkestra, performing with them and recording a session for BBC Radio 3. He has performed and recorded with Courtney Pine's Jazz Warriors, Mulatu Astatke and the Heliocentrics, Polar Bear and Soweto Kinch. Some of the many notable musicians he has shared the stage with include Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden and the Liberation Music Orchestra, Louis Moholo, Evan Parker, King Sunny Ade and Orlando Julius to name a few. Keziah Jones Keziah Jones, vocal, guitar Joel Grant, bass Joshua McKenzie, percussion Keziah Jones was born into a wealthy family in 1968 in Lagos, Nigeria. He was sent to school in England at the age of 8 and he taught himself to play the piano and guitar in London. He gradually created a stunning rhythmic blend of smooth funk, Hendrix-style psychedelia, pure Ikeja reggae and Yoruba harmonies. He called it BluFunk. Keziah Jones hung out English pubs in central London before heading to Paris where he was spotted in the underground in 1991. The album Blufunk Is a Fact and the track Rhythm is Love were international hits. After venturing through the desert of the mid-90s, he struck gold in 2003 with his fourth album Black Orpheus then the unstoppable Nigerian Wood (2008). Keziah completed an ambitious double album in 2013 flitting between Los Angeles, Spain and his kingdoms in London and Lagos. The dandy fighter is well and truly back to win over his audience.
