The Sound of New York, Mark Turner 'The Sound of New York' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in New York City. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. It's right in New York today that this impulse is stronger than ever: the sounds come from a deep integration of music of the past and today, interacting with other artistic forms. It's a modern concentration of African-American music influences, including classical and contemporary, as well as more mainstream styles such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, R'B, Rock, etc 10 musicians internationally known will lead us into this world walking along the streets of New York. We will see the places where they live and listen to the music they compose to know their artistic essence. Mark Turner is an American jazz saxophonist. He played the clarinet, followed by the alto and tenor saxophones in high school. In 1990 he moves to New York and worked at Tower Records in New York City for an extended period before working full-time as a jazz musician. Turner's sound is reminiscent of that of Warne Marsh, but he also has elements of John Coltrane in his playing. His improvised lines tend to span several octaves and contain great harmonic and rhythmic complexity. His compositions often make use of repeated patterns, odd-metered time signatures, and intervallic leaps. Turner claims that his music is 'unfolding like a narrative'. In September 2014, Turner released his first album as a leader since 2001 on ECM Records; it features trumpeter Avishai Cohen, bassist Joe Martin, and drummer Marcus Gilmore. Turner is a member of the trio Fly, which includes himself, bassist Larry Grenadier, and drummer Jeff Ballard. Recorded in 2017 TV director, Gloria Rebecchi

Shorter is one of the most influential musicians of Modern Jazz. Since the 1950s, he was a dominant musical force, known as one of the improvisers and the world's most important composers. He played in virtually all with the greatest of Art Blakey to Miles Davis for jazz fusion group Weather Report, and has published more than 20 albums under his own name. With his quartet, Shorter changes the rules by his egalitarian operation and wins with youthful insolence as one of the most exciting groups of the early twenty-first century.

Bokanté Malika Tirolien, voice Michael League, guitar & voice Chris McQueen, guitar & voice Bob Lanzetti, guitar Roosevelt Collier, steel guitar Jamey Haddad, percussion Keita Ogawa, percussion André Ferrari, percussion An experiment conceived by Snarky Puppy founder and GroundUP Music creator Michael League (who has traded his bass in for a baritone guitar in this group), the process of formation was all but conventional. The music and some of the melodies were written by League, demoed while on tour with other bands, and then sent to Tirolien with lyrical concepts attached. Tirolien then wrote lyrics and melodies, demoing and ping-ponging the new content back to Michael. Many of the musicians had never even met until the first day of recording. By the end of the week-long session in upstate New York's legendary Dreamland Studios, the band felt abnormally cohesive. 'Unity was paramount in the formation of this group,' observed League. 'Though the ensemble is multi-lingual, multi-cultural, and multi-generational, we all feel connected as musicians and people. And in combining our different accents I feel that there is a strangely common and poignant sound, one that can reach and relate to listeners around the world.' Born and raised in Woodstock, NY, Vicente Archer has been hailed as one of the most sought-out bassists of his generation. At the age of twenty, while still in college in Boston, he was picked up by acclaimed artists Donald Harrison and Eric Reed to tour. Soon after that he went on to work with artists such as Terence Blanchard, Kenny Garrett, Wynton Marsalis, Stanley Jordan, Stefon Harris and many more. João Bosco, lead, guitar/vocals Ricardo Silveira, guitar Guto Wirtti, bass Kiko Freitas, drums João Bosco has been loved in his home country of Brazil for decades, since the 60s when he first began composing and performing. In the early 90s, Bosco mounted a major tour of the US, and since then he has become increasingly popular internationally, regularly performing at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival. Despite his growing popularity outside of his homeland, Bosco remains thoroughly attached to Brazil to the point of never leaving it for extended periods; his music, though rooted in Brazil's classic samba and bossa nova traditions, combines rock and roll, jazz and other ethnic styles in an eclectic brew that is as inventive and challenging as he is. Golden Striker Trio Ronald L. Carter (bass guitar ) Russel L. Malone (guitar) Donald Vega (piano) A hugely talented double bassist, gifted with a remarkable sense of melody and widely recognised for the finesse and elegance of his playing style, the American Ron Carter is a living legend. A musician of genius, he started out playing with Gil Evans, Lena Horne, Bill Evans, B.B. King, Dexter Gordon, Wes Montgomery, Eric Dolphy and Bobby Timmons. He then went on to win fame alongside Cannonball Adderley and Thelonious Monk and, of course, from 1963 to 1968, in the famous quintet formed by Miles Davis. Closer to us in time, Ron Carter became a respected musical leader in his own right in the Golden Striker Trio with Russell Malone and Mulgrew Miller ('Golden Striker' album, 2003) and opted, like Ray Brown towards the end of his life, for the legendary trio of piano/guitar/bass, first used by Nat King Cole and Art Tatum. This classical tradition is fully assumed by Miles' former bassist. In concert, the emotion often reaches a climax with one of his favourite songs, the standard 'My Funny Valentine'. A native of Michigan (born in 1937), Ron Carter won a Grammy Award in 1998 for the instrumental 'Call Sheet Blues' from the soundtrack of the film 'Round Midnight'. In 2010, he was made a Commander in the Order of Arts and Letters in France. Last year, his virtuoso association with the accordionist Richard Galliano enjoyed great success in France. A musical sense forged with tungsten, like the strings on his bass, and with all his elegance and freshness intact, the legend is back. Along with the release of 'Sounds of Crenshaw Vol.1', an album by his group The Pollyseeds (with, among others, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper and Problem), as well as his contribution to the famous 'Loyalty' by the duo K. Lamar/Rihanna, he has produced the latest album by YG and toured with Herbie Hancock, whose current work he is also producing. To round off the year, he whipped up the crowds last year with Robert Glasper and a real Who's Who in contemporary US jazz (see line-up) in the supergroup concept named R+R=Now. The pianist Robert Glasper announced and described the project to Billboard: 'we all come from the same concrete garden and we make fluid, honest and open music ranging from jazz, hip hop and EDM to reggae!' NORMA WINSTONE TRIO & EMILY REMEMBERED LIVE AT THE EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL Since emerging on the London jazz scene in 1966 with an engagement at Ronnie Scott's Club, Norma Winstone has worked with many of the innovators on the British and European scene. Her unique voice could be said to define an entire era of British and European Jazz, from re-inventions of The Great American Songbook to more abstract excursions into vocal timbre. She recorded five albums for the iconic German record label ECM with the group Azimuth, with John Taylor and Kenny Wheeler. Her own album for ECM, Somewhere Called Home with John Taylor and saxophonist/clarinettist Tony Coe, has become a classic vocal album, and her latest album Dance without Answer was released on ECM in 2013.

The Sound of New York, Matthew Stevens 'The Sound of New York' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in New York City. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. It's right in New York today that this impulse is stronger than ever: the sounds come from a deep integration of music of the past and today, interacting with other artistic forms. It's a modern concentration of African-American music influences, including classical and contemporary, as well as more mainstream styles such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, R'B, Rock, etc 10 musicians internationally known will lead us into this world walking along the streets of New York. We will see the places where they live and listen to the music they compose to know their artistic essence. Stevens es un guitariste américain.
