Stéphane Kerecki - French Touch Stéphane Kerecki, double bass Julien Lourau, saxophone Fabrice Moreau, drums Jozef Dumoulin, piano, Fender Rhodes Stéphane Kerecki made a name for himself by playing with Daniel Humair, Sheila Jordan, Michel Portal, Jacky Terrasson. He is leading his own trio, with saxophonist Matthieu Donarier and drummer Thomas Grimmonprez. Ambrose Akinmusire Quartet Ambrose Akinmusire (trumpet) Sam Harris (piano), Harish Raghavan (bass guitar), Justin Brown (drums) This young trumpet player (aged 36), an American of Nigerian heritage, has an impeccable background (from Berkeley High School to the first prize in the Thelonious Monk competition in 2007), but is much more than an impressive academic CV. He aims to create a personal world 'dedicated to beauty'. Akinmusire was born and raised in Oakland, California and first attracted the attention of the saxophonist Steve Coleman, who asked him to join Five Elements. Ambrose Akinmusire was then 19. He released his first album, 'Prelude (To Cora)', and moved to New York, where he played with Vijay Iyer, Aaron Parks, Esperanza Spalding and Jason Moran. In 2010, he worked with Terri Lyne Carrington, Ron Carter, Wallace Roney, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. Everyone could see that this creative and surprising trumpet player would be a name to watch in contemporary jazz. This view was shared by the Blue Note label, who signed him up. The albums 'When the Heart Emerges Glistening' and 'The Imagined Savior is Far Easier to Paint' were released in 2011 and 2014. The artist draws his landscapes, visions, ideas and states of mind - pure grace! Akinmusire explores the two sides of his temperament: introspection and lyrical ebullience. In summer 2017, he released 'A Rift in Decorum - Live at the Village Vanguard', a double CD recorded at the legendary club in New York, featuring 16 new compositions in two wide-ranging sets, in defiance of gravity. The Sound of New York, Vicente Archer 'The Sound of New York' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in New York City. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. Born and raised in Woodstock, NY, Vicente Archer has been hailed as one of the most sought-out bassists of his generation. At the age of twenty, while still in college in Boston, he was picked up by acclaimed artists Donald Harrison and Eric Reed to tour. Soon after that he went on to work with artists such as Terence Blanchard, Kenny Garrett, Wynton Marsalis, Stanley Jordan, Stefon Harris and many more. NORMA WINSTONE TRIO & EMILY REMEMBERED LIVE AT THE EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL Since emerging on the London jazz scene in 1966 with an engagement at Ronnie Scott's Club, Norma Winstone has worked with many of the innovators on the British and European scene. Her unique voice could be said to define an entire era of British and European Jazz, from re-inventions of The Great American Songbook to more abstract excursions into vocal timbre. She recorded five albums for the iconic German record label ECM with the group Azimuth, with John Taylor and Kenny Wheeler. Her own album for ECM, Somewhere Called Home with John Taylor and saxophonist/clarinettist Tony Coe, has become a classic vocal album, and her latest album Dance without Answer was released on ECM in 2013.

Steve Lehman Trio Described as 'one of the transforming figures of early 21st century jazz,' by The Guardian (UK) and as a 'dazzling saxophonist,' by The New York Times, Steve Lehman (b. New York City, 1978) is a composer, performer, educator, and scholar who works across a broad spectrum of jazz-based musical idioms. His recent recording, Travail, Transformation & Flow (Pi 2009), was chosen as the #1 Jazz Album of the year by The New York Times. For this evening's performance, Lehman will perform with his critically-acclaimed trio, featuring Matt Brewer (Bass) and Damion Reid (Drum Set). The Sound of New York, Mark Turner 'The Sound of New York' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in New York City. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. It's right in New York today that this impulse is stronger than ever: the sounds come from a deep integration of music of the past and today, interacting with other artistic forms. It's a modern concentration of African-American music influences, including classical and contemporary, as well as more mainstream styles such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, R'B, Rock, etc 10 musicians internationally known will lead us into this world walking along the streets of New York. We will see the places where they live and listen to the music they compose to know their artistic essence. Mark Turner is an American jazz saxophonist. He played the clarinet, followed by the alto and tenor saxophones in high school. In 1990 he moves to New York and worked at Tower Records in New York City for an extended period before working full-time as a jazz musician. Turner's sound is reminiscent of that of Warne Marsh, but he also has elements of John Coltrane in his playing. His improvised lines tend to span several octaves and contain great harmonic and rhythmic complexity. His compositions often make use of repeated patterns, odd-metered time signatures, and intervallic leaps. Turner claims that his music is 'unfolding like a narrative'. In September 2014, Turner released his first album as a leader since 2001 on ECM Records; it features trumpeter Avishai Cohen, bassist Joe Martin, and drummer Marcus Gilmore. Shorter is one of the most influential musicians of Modern Jazz. Since the 1950s, he was a dominant musical force, known as one of the improvisers and the world's most important composers. He played in virtually all with the greatest of Art Blakey to Miles Davis for jazz fusion group Weather Report, and has published more than 20 albums under his own name. With his quartet, Shorter changes the rules by his egalitarian operation and wins with youthful insolence as one of the most exciting groups of the early twenty-first century.

Lady Quartet Rhoda Scott (organ), Airelle Besson (trumpet), Lisa Cat-Berro (saxophone alto), Géraldine Laurent (saxophone alto) Sophie Alour (Saxophone tenor) Julie Saury (drums) Special guest Bernard Purdie (drums) Since 2004, the organist Rhoda Scott has been at the helm (sparked by an idea from Jazz à Vienne) of the torrid and well-named Lady Quartet, in the company of her Amazons Lisa Cat-Berro, Julie Saury and Sophie Alour. As euphoric and punchy as her young companions in the heat of the action, Rhoda Scott is one of the few still to use the pedals on her Hammond organ. Hence her nickname, 'the barefoot organist' (or 'the absolute toe' in the words of Luigi Trussardi!). After helping to raise the temperature in French jazz venues for the past 50 years, Lady Scott will be celebrating her eightieth birthday this year. She'll be blowing out the boogie candles and setting the gospel cake and soulful chorus on fire. The organist is the daughter of a travelling pastor from New Jersey and grew up in religious communities. She graduated with a master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music and set off for France to complete her studies with Nadia Boulanger. Back in New York, she began by playing with Count Basie. But then she decided to try her luck in Paris, where she arrived right in the month of May 1968. Featuring original compositions and covers ranging from Trenet to Wayne Shorter, 'We Free Queens' (2017), with the title proudly adapted from 'We Free Kings' by Roland Kirk, was recorded live. For Vienne a Lady All-Stars is billed, with Airelle Besson (trumpet), Géraldine Laurent (tenor saxophone) and Anne Pacéo (drums), plus the drummer Bernard Purdie. AARON GOLDBERG LIVE AT THE EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL Aaron Goldberg (piano) Joe Sanders (bass) Eric Harland (drums) After graduating from Harvard in 1996, he performed as a sideman and is most associated with saxophonist Joshua Redman. In 2005 and 2006, Aaron toured and recorded with guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, appearing on Rosenwinkel's album The Remedy: Live at the Village Vanguard. In 2005 he toured South America with Madeleine Peyroux and spent 6 months performing with the Wynton Marsalis quartet as well as the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Goldberg's debut album as a leader was Turning Point. His most recent release is Home, which continues his long-standing musical partnership with bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Eric Harland. In 2004, Goldberg organized Jazz for America's Future, an historic fundraising concert for Sen. John Kerry; in 2008 and 2012 he organized Jazz For Obama, similar fundraising efforts for President Obama.
