The Sound of NY, Luis Perdomo & Mimi Jones 'The Sound of NY' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in NYCity. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene.It's right in NY today that this impulse is stronger than ever: the sounds come from a deep integration of music of the past and today, interacting with other artistic forms. It's a modern concentration of African-American music influences, including classical and contemporary, as well as more mainstream styles such as Jazz, Hip-Hop, R'B, Rock...10 musicians internationally known will lead us into this world walking along the streets of NY. We will see the places where they live & listen to the music they compose to know their artistic essence. Luis Perdomo (born in Caracas) is an American jazz pianist and composer. His style is directly & indirectly influenced by B.Powell, O.Peterson, McCoy Tyner, P.Bley, H.Hancock. 'The biggest lesson I received from Gerry Weil in Venezuela, was to keep my mind open to all types of music' (L.Perdomo) He has played with R.Irizarry and Timbalaye, Ray Barretto's sextet, D. Sanchez, J.Patitucci, D.Douglas, B.Lynch, T.Harrell, D.Gilmore and D.Weiss & 'The Cookers'... He has been a long-standing member of Miguel Zenon's quartet & was a member of Ravi Coltrane's quartet for 10 years. Mimi Jones (Miriam Sullivant) is an American bassist, vocalist, composer, bandleader, education & founder of Hot Tone Music (lin 2009) & now filmaker.Born in NY city, she was raised in the Bronx. She attended The harlem School of the Arts, Fiorello H.LaGuardia Hight School and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Performance from the Manhattan School of Music Conservatory, NY.Her vastwork as a sidewoman includes Gigs with L.Hampton, R.Coltrane, R.Hargrove and L.Perdomo. The Sound of New York, Mark Turner 'The Sound of New York' is the exploration of the musical world of a new generation of artists based in New York City. These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. We will see the places where they live and listen to the music they compose to know their artistic essence. Mark Turner is an American jazz saxophonist. He played the clarinet, followed by the alto and tenor saxophones in high school. In 1990 he moves to New York and worked at Tower Records in New York City for an extended period before working full-time as a jazz musician. Turner's sound is reminiscent of that of Warne Marsh, but he also has elements of John Coltrane in his playing. His improvised lines tend to span several octaves and contain great harmonic and rhythmic complexity. His compositions often make use of repeated patterns, odd-metered time signatures, and intervallic leaps. Turner claims that his music is 'unfolding like a narrative'. In September 2014, Turner released his first album as a leader since 2001 on ECM Records; it features trumpeter Avishai Cohen, bassist Joe Martin, and drummer Marcus Gilmore. Turner is a member of the trio Fly, which includes himself, bassist Larry Grenadier, and drummer Jeff Ballard. Recorded in 2017 TV director, Gloria Rebecchi

These musicians hail from different countries, with their own stories and diverse experiences, are giving birth to a new musical wave that takes shape influencing worldwide the artistic scene. Gerald William Clayton is a jazz pianist and composer born in Utrecht, Netherlands and raised in Los Angeles. Clayton attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, USC's Thornton School of Music, where he studied piano with Billy Childs, and the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Kenny Barron. He has performed and recorded with Roy Hargrove, Diana Krall, Dianne Reeves, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ambrose Akinmusire, Dayna Stephens, Kendrick Scott, Ben Williams, Terell Stafford & Dick Oatts, Michael Rodriguez, Avishai Cohen, Sachal Vasandani, Gretchen Parlato, and the Clayton Brothers Quintet. Clayton also has enjoyed an extended association since early 2013, touring and recording with saxophone legend, Charles Lloyd. 2016 marks his second year as Musical Director of the Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour, a project that features his trio with Ravi Coltrane, Nicolas Payton, and Raul Midón.
