Daymé Arocena @ Worldwide festival 2015 Daymé was part of the Havana Cultura Mix project, which saw Gilles Peterson mentoring selected producers from around the world to make a record in Cuba with local musicians. St Petersburg's Dance Open Documentary directed by Tommy Pascal Having started its history from a series of master-classes of the leading teachers from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet for talented ballet students of different nations, the International Ballet Festival DANCE OPEN has been growing and strengthening its positions every year, as well as gaining an irreproachable reputation in Russia and abroad. DANCE OPEN today is one of the biggest ballet forums in the world. The prestigious British edition 'The Independent' has called it one of the most influential festivals in Europe. Over 14 years of its history, the Festival has got its own artistic style showing best international soloists, crowning choreographies, master-classes of ballet stars and teachers, prestigious Award, as well as unique ballet programs, dedicated to the legends of Russian and International Ballet.

The Magic of the Ballets Russes Documentary It is now a century since Serge Diaghilev arrived in Paris in 1908 with his Ballets Russes. The Ballets Russes were a shock and exacerbated many passions. All the artistic avant-garde was involved, the public first approved and later rebelled when limits were crossed. The stage then moved into the street and Parisian fashion followed. Is there anything left today of this craze? Andris Liepa, a star dancer with the Bolshoi, director and founder of the 'Saisons Russes du XXI siècle' is devoting his energy to re-creating this heritage. Even if they no longer shock us, these choreographies still shine with the inventiveness and magic of the Diaghilev years. The film is meant as a mirror to the fascination generated by the lush sets and costumes of the time, and the total personal involvement of the performers, a major characteristic of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Appropriating this epic drama, British composer Jonathan Dove has written an opera for the young and the old, interpreted by a handful of soloists, a youth orchestra that will be trained with the help of the London Symphony Orchestra musicians, and 300 amateur choristers from the region of Aix, including children, teenagers and adults. Conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, all embark on an adventure which promises to breathe much life and spirit into this great mythological saga. A pedagogical project par excellence, this performance will be the culmination of a series of workshops for amateur choristers, organised throughout the year by the Festival's Passerelles department. Brought into the limelight by Miles Davis in the 1980's, John Scofield explores all forms of jazz, including the blues, funk and country music. The American musician teams up with Steve Swallow, who now plays electric bass, and Bill Stewart on drums. John Scofield began playing the guitar as a teenager, discovered the standards of jazz before being drawn to jazz-rock and studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In the 1970's, his career started as a side man with trumpeter and singer Chet Baker and pianist George Duke, among others. In the 1980's the general public discovered his swing, when he played for three years alongside the legendary Miles Davis. Later, Sco's brand of jazz fusion absorbed elements of soul and of the 'New Orleans Spirit', as he played with the greatest musicians of his generation, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Jim Hall.
